Customer Reviews of Seventh Generation Natural Fabric Softener, Blue Eucalyptus and Lavender Scent, Ultra-Concentrated, 40-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

Customer Review: Great for people with allergies
Summary: 5 Stars

Almost all the reviews are focusing on the fact that this product is good for the environment, but I would like to point out something a little different. My wife developed an allergy to the chemicals used in normal fabric softners such as Downy and Snuggle. We tried different brands, scents and even the "free" versions of sheets. Nothing was working for her allergy. We finally gave up on fabric softner and I resigned myself to scratchy cloths.

Then here mother gave us a couple of Seventh Generation's competitors' products. They worked well and it was better than no fabric softner. We were just about out so I started searching the internet for what to get and found out about SG products. After looking locally and not finding any at several gracery and retail stores I decided to order online and took a big chance with amazon.com having to order an entire case at a time.

I pleased to report though that my wife has no problems with this product and is actually quite pleased with its performace as compared to the big names. The subscribe and save feature makes this a pretty good deal as well. The local Kroger started carrying the SG line of products, but if I am willing to buy a case, amazon.com is the way to go. I hope maybe this review will at least help someone else that is stuck like my wife and I with an allergy problem.

Customer Review: Good concept but marginal results
Summary: 2 Stars

I chose this fabric softener because I prefer ecologically-friendly products and because I need to reduce static cling in the winter. While the concept of a natural fabric softener is great, its performance failed to impress me. Whatever base is used as a softening agent also seems to leave an slight oily smell in my clothes. I did a load of sweaters and the neutral lavender scent transformed over time into something that reminds me of how my kitchen towels smell after have been exposed to cooking oil. The same thing happened to my sheets. And I always make sure to wash my kitchen fabrics separately from everything else. Also, the effectiveness of the softener seems to break down in the dryer. I still get a lot of static cling from shirts and socks. Finally, this stuff is pretty thick. After using this softener less than five times it clogged up my washer's fabric softener dispenser. The bottle doesn't give a warning to dilute the product - something that could have helped me. I had to manually clean it out and run a few cycles with vinegar added to the dispenser to break down the build-up. I'm glad this works for others but it really failed for me.

Customer Review: Smells wonderful!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've done 3 loads of laundry with this fabric softener, and so far so good! I LOVE the smell, although I wish the scent was stronger on my clothes after they've dried. In addition to adding the softener to the washing machine, I put some of it on a washcloth and threw it in the dryer with my wet clothes. The scent was a little more noticeable on this load than on the load where I only added it to the washer. I also did this when I washed and dried a blanket made out of polyester that always has static electricity. While the static electricity wasn't completely gone, it did help it considerably. There was no static electricity with any of the other things I washed and dried.

Straight out of the bottle, this fabric softener smells MUCH better than any leading fabric softener. The scent of other fabric softeners (even ones that have added scent) just smell like chemicals to me and make me nauseous. I love that this fabric softener is good for the environment, and, as a vegetarian, I'm glad it's made without the use of animal by-products.

Customer Review: Spots clothes, hardens into a solid in the washer?!
Summary: 1 Stars

Finally decided to try this, after hearing great things about it. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me - at all. For record, I wash almost everything in cold water and dry on low heat (except towels, dishcloths, etc.) This fabric softener left oily spots (some quite large) on my clothes, especially shirts (mostly cotton blends). Not good. Also, after using this product, I'd find large, brittle white chunks in my washer with the clothes - sort of like thin, brittle white rocks. I was baffled - the only thing I can think is that it was the fabric softener, because it's never happened before, nor after I stopped using it. Perhaps due to the cold wash water? Not sure.

Also, this product leaves no scent on the clothes whatsoever. This may or may not be a detriment, depending on what you're after, but I'd prefer a light scent of *something*.

So I'm still searching for a good eco-friendly softener that meets my requirements - no spotting of clothes, no mysterious 'chunks' and a pleasant scent left over after drying.

Customer Review: Smells Great and works!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got my first case of this fabric softener last week and yesterday, I was walking downstairs when the smell of lavender hit me - I was surprised because I hadn't sprayed any lavender freshener in the air, when I realized that my boyfriend was doing a load of laundry. Like Seventh Generation's lavender laundry detergent, I love this product - if you use them in tandem, not only do your clothes smell like *real* lavender (not the chemically-based smells of mainstream products), but they come out clean and soft. I especially like the lavender smell for my sheets and blankets and it's gentle enough to use on my baby's clothes, too! I love that it's made with natural products and real lavender essential oil. It's also safe for my septic system, so I'm sold on this product. If you're sensitive to the chemical-based scents of the mainstream fabric softeners or can't find one that smells good to you, try this one!
