Customer Reviews of Seventh Generation Natural Fabric Softener, Blue Eucalyptus and Lavender Scent, Ultra-Concentrated, 40-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

Customer Review: Excellent Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm using the subscription service from Amazon for this and I'm so happy with it. I LOVE not having to buy laundry soap at the store. I love having it delivered to my home. I love that I don't feel uneasy (like I did with previous soaps) about my kids wearing their clothes and the effects on my septic system. I love how well it works and I've been so pleasantly surprised at how much cleaner my clothes look. I use 1/2 a cap or less on large loads. I think the smell is nice, but there really isn't any smell left on the clothes after they're washed. I have no complaints about the soap. I hope it's saving as much petroleum as they claim!

Customer Review: Makes no scents
Summary: 1 Stars

I buy fabric softener for the scent, since modern detergent usually softens the clothes as well, and this leaves none in the clothes. I feel like it's a waste of money, since my goal for detergent is cleanliness and my goal for fabric softener is a nice scent. They should advertise it as "unscented." Can't even tell I washed clothes.

Customer Review: Good concept but marginal results
Summary: 2 Stars

I chose this fabric softener because I prefer ecologically-friendly products and because I need to reduce static cling in the winter. While the concept of a natural fabric softener is great, its performance failed to impress me. Whatever base is used as a softening agent also seems to leave an slight oily smell in my clothes. I did a load of sweaters and the neutral lavender scent transformed over time into something that reminds me of how my kitchen towels smell after have been exposed to cooking oil. The same thing happened to my sheets. And I always make sure to wash my kitchen fabrics separately from everything else. Also, the effectiveness of the softener seems to break down in the dryer. I still get a lot of static cling from shirts and socks. Finally, this stuff is pretty thick. After using this softener less than five times it clogged up my washer's fabric softener dispenser. The bottle doesn't give a warning to dilute the product - something that could have helped me. I had to manually clean it out and run a few cycles with vinegar added to the dispenser to break down the build-up. I'm glad this works for others but it really failed for me.

I had been using Tide for my laundry detergent and Downey for my fabric softener, for as long as I can remember. After being advised that the natural environment friendly products might be easier on my sensitive skin, I gave them a try. I first tried the Seventh Generation Laundry Concentrate, Blue Eucalyptus & Lavender, 50-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6) and was so impressed that I decided to give the fabric softener a try. I am glad I did.

I don't think this fabric softener makes the clothes quite as soft as Downey, but it comes pretty darn close. What I have noticed is that Downey made some of my clothing fabrics feel like there was a film on them, Seventh Generation does not. Every fabric feels clean and soft.

I think the price is very comparable to the Downey, as well. In fact I pay only a little less for the Downey at my local grocery store. With Seventh Generation being so earth and animal friendly, I think it's more than worth the price.

My one complaint, and it seems I am not the only reviewer that feels this way, is that the scent doesn't last through the drying cycle. Your clothes still smell clean, but they don't have the blue eucalyptus and lavender smell I love so from the bottle. I really hope they fix that, my husband hopes they don't.

I am from this point on going to be using the Seventh Generation laundry products, they have won me over.
