I have used Seventh Generation Laundry Powder for 10plus years (since it was handled by Gaiam rather than Amazon). I have an alternative waste treatment system (similar to a septic tank but without the drainfield). I get my tank pumped every two years. The people who service the system keep marveling at how well the system works and how little cleaning and maintenance it requires. I smile and tell them, "It's the detergent!" So yes, it's great for the environment.

I bought this a couple months ago. We're a family of 2 who does laundry a couple times a week, using a high efficiency washer. This stuff works great! A third of a scoop or so, and the clothes come out clean, fresh, but unscented. I particularly like that it seems to last forever - we're about halfway down on the first box. It doesn't take much to get clean clothes with this detergent. I also like the completely unscented nature, the fact that I know every ingredient, and the fact that I don't have to worry about anyone having a reaction to it. A great detergent, shipped free, at a wonderful price.Customer Review: I love this stuff!

My children and I are chemically sensitive and have tried a whole host of fragrance free laundry detergents. This is the only product I have found that does not cause us to break out in a rash and it does a terrific job of cleaning our clothes. It dissolves quickly and cleans effectively. We have been using this product for around six months now and have not noticed any wash related wear or fading of our clothing. The price is also extremely reasonable compared to what we were paying for other 'sensitive' products. I can highly recommend this product.Customer Review: Great, but they just changed the formula

I'm now on my third case of this detergent from Amazon. When this case arrived I noticed it had a strong mildew smell to it. I called the company this morning about it and they said they've recently added an anti-sudsing ingredient that causes the mildewy smelly. Gross! Now the product is good for regular and high efficiency machines, but it comes with a stinky smell. Good news is the clothes don't end up smelling like it, but my laundry room does. I have four boxes to get through, but after that might have to start looking for another product.Customer Review: Doesn't dissolve

Like others, I really wanted this to work out. I love SG's diapers and many other products. But the powder cakes up, and just does not dissolve in our hard water. I have to crumble it up in my hands to an almost talc-like consistency and mix it into the water, which has to be at least warm, then add clothes - THEN it does a good job and does not leave detergent "rocks" or white stains on the clothes. Unfortunately that's a little too much effort. It cleans well when it dissolves, so maybe it's fine for soft-water areas.
