This product is simply great. There are so many self tanning products, and so many reviews, that it took me quite a while to decide to give Sheer Tan a try. Not that my opinion is the be-all end-all, but I hope this review can help make the decision easier for anyone else trying to comparison shop. Just save yourself some time and get this stuff!!!!
One can lasts me about a month: I use it on my entire upper body an average of five times a week, and on my legs maybe two times a week (I use Fake Bake lotion on my legs the rest of the time because of the awesome dark color it gives you immediately). I have super sensitive skin on my face, and can barely use any products without breaking out -- but I can use this on my face just fine! That alone makes it well worth the price. I only apply it so often because I'm super fair skinned, if you're naturally darker skinned you might not need to use it every day. It definitely lasts on my body much longer than it lasts on my face, though -- my face needs to be sprayed every day. The smell of this is really chemically right when you're putting it on, so I recommend good ventilation or a fan in your bathroom. As soon as it dries, it smells totally fine. It does taste terrible though, so when I spray my face I make sure not to get it on my lips.
It did take two or three tries to get good at applying this stuff, however. After using it for the past four or five months, I have to say, any negative review of this product has to be due to user error (sorry guys!). If you spray too close, you'll get drips and runs, but if you spray too far, you won't get good coverage. I spray from about six inches away, and I do a medium coat, rub it in well, and then two or three minutes later, I repeat. The company tells you to use lotion immediately after spraying, to rub the product in evenly. I did that the first several times I used it, but now, I just rub it in with my hands -- no lotion needed. If you use lotion like they direct, it won't hurt anything, but I get a darker tan when I don't use any. The tan you get from this is NOT orange at all...it is a golden bronze, and it looks completely real. Everyone thinks I've been on vacation or going tanning religiously.
I'm posting a photo in the User Photos of this product to show the tan line I get from using just Sheer Tan. I haven't gone to a tanning bed in over a year, and I've only laid out two times this entire summer. The tan (and tan lines) I have are completely from this stuff and Fake Bake -- but like I said, I only use Fake Bake on my legs, because it rubs off so much that it would ruin all my shirts. I wear a swimsuit bottom when I put on self tanner, so that I can see the difference after the tan develops. Also, Sheer Tan will sweat off a bit, so if you're planning on wearing light colors, I wouldn't use it that day. It does wash right out of clothing, however. Anyway, again, I read so many reviews before getting Sheer Tan, and I really just wanted to see photo evidence from someone, but there were no user photos for any of these products -- so now there is!
