First of all, Neti Potting :) is a good thing. It is a great way to clean out our sinuses without resorting to drugs or chemicals. (Save for a bit of buffered salt and some water.)

Also, this Neti Pot works OK but has a few issues. First, it really isn't unbreakable. It's not even that durable. It's actually made of pretty thin plastic. The reason for the "unbreakable" reference is that these things were originally ceramic. If you let one go in the bathroom, where you would most likely be when you're using it, there's all kinds of things it can land on and just about all of them would cause a ceramic pot to shatter. This, being made of thin, light plastic would survive any household fall. However, if you should step on it, or even if a small child or reasonable sized dog should get their hands or teeth on it the the unbreakability goes out the window.

The second issue is that it's not just thin plastic but two halve of thin plastic joined together. That creates a couple seams along the entire surface, including the part you stick in your nose. With the pot I received it's about as smooth as it can get and still feels a bit uncomfortable.

The third thing is that the nozzle is a bit small and it can be difficult, at least for me, to get a good seal. Finally, the pot only holds enough water for one side and you need to fill it twice for each session.

On the plus side is the price and having a bunch of salt packets included.

However, if you *know* you are going to enjoy the benefits then it might be worth consider the Stainless Steel Neti Pot for Sinus Congestion (Ayurvedic JalNeti) instead. It has none of the issues listed above and will certainly last a life time. The alternative would be to get the SinuCleanse pot first and, unless you have a very small, very tough nose, wind up getting the Stainless Steel pot a few weeks later. (I'm speaking from experience here...)

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've gotten from other reviewers and continue to return the favor as best as I can. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

Customer Review: Neti-pot
Summary: 4 Stars

If you suffer from sinus infections brought on by allergies then the SinuCleanse Nasal Wash System with the Neti-pot could be the best naturally alternative. The 2010 spring season in Arkansas recorded the highest level of pollen ever. There was no escaping the pollen unless you wore a face mask 24/7. Tree pollen is rank among the highest allergens that affects millions. Each year, a new allergy drug hits the market promising to ease the symptoms but with an outrageous cost. The SinuCleanse solution dates back to the ancient times and going natural may alleviate both pain in the pocketbook and provide immediate relief.
I have suffered with sinus infections associated with spring allergies for over 15 years. About two years ago, someone introduced me to the Neti-Pot and after using it regularly for a couple of days my symptoms disappeared. This product works and the pot makes it simple!

Okay, there are a few things you must get over and what I learned:
1. NO, you will not drown yourself with the pot! But remember never inhale while irrigating- ALWAYS breath out your mouth.

2. Be prepared for the flow of mucus which can be gross if your sinus cavities are slightly infected. Instead of the mucus being clear and slimy it may have a yellowish color. However, if you are congested and cannot breathe out of both nostrils then the Neti-pot may not work properly and the solution will back-up in the nostril.

3. Mix your solution with warm water based on your internal temperature. If the water is too hot or too cold, you may experience some unpleasant discomfort (stinging and burning sensation).

4. Make sure the solution is dissolved completely before you start. You will only forget once because the stinging is almost unbearable.

5. Although it is dishwasher safe, immediately wash/rinse the pot after each use to avoid bacteria from setting up. Turn the pot upside down to air dry if time does not permit you to dry.

What works wonders for some may be a nightmare to others. The downside to the Neti-pot is the small
spigot so if you have large nostrils this product may not be the best option compared to the NasaFlo
Nasal Hygiene system.

If you suffer from sinus infections and need relief other than another prescription then give the Neti-pot a try and take control of your sinus. Good luck!

I have been using neti-pots for more than a year now and I really love it. It's really fantastic. In a nutshell, what it is is just a small pot you use to pour saline water into one nostril where it will go into one sinus cavity into the other one and then drain out of the other nostril. It irrigates and washes the sinuses out.

Mechanics: It will take most people a little while to get used to. There are a bunch of YouTube videos you can watch but in the end, practice makes perfect. First, tilt your head to one side, then stick the sprout into the top nostril. In the beginning you can use the mirror to help your positioning but you'll find you won't need one as you get better. You might need to adjust your head tilt to get the saline flowing. If you have congested nostrils it might take a while for the saline to drip through, just be patient and don't give up. Eventually you'll get a nice stream of saline coming out. And even as an experienced user if I'm too congested it won't work, but at least you will be able to slosh your sinuses by pouring it in each side and then just letting it drain out again.

Usage:
1) The absolute best for sinus infections. Forget about anti-biotics. The saline kills bacteria itself by osmosis and the flushing action just clears out the sinuses. The first time I ever used the neti-pot I literally flushed out decades of detritus from my sinus, yellow and brown gunk. I've never seen that again and I can't just imagine all that crap still sitting there if I hadn't done it.

2) When I have runny nostrils. Funny enough, I tried it once when I had runny nostrils and it stopped it. I do that every time I have runny nostrils now. Not sure why, maybe it dries out the membranes, but it works.

3) When I have a cold, maybe it works by flushing out any bacteria in my sinuses or nose but it seems to help me get better faster. Sometimes it even seems to prevent runny nostrils from being a full blown cold.

Your mileage may vary, but I recommend you give it a try. As usual read all the disclaimers and make sure you don't have any contra-indications before using it but I'm a believer.

Customer Review: After 2 years I'm still using it regularly
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one of these about 2 years ago after seeing a similar one on Oprah. Someone actually did a demo on the show (can't remember if Oprah tried it herself) and said that it really cleared her sinuses. I've found it to be very effective when I have a cold or allergies or sometimes during the winter when my nose just feels dry. It took a little while to get the hang of using it, mainly just how far to tilt your head to the side and breathe through your mouth rather than your nose. You also want to use lukewarm water as your nose can be pretty sensitive. I found that it helped cleared by nose for several hours when I had a cold and when I was getting over the cold or had a runny nose due to allergies it made my nose and sinuses feel a lot better.

It comes with some little measured packets that contain Sodium Bicarbonate and Sodium Chloride (baking soda and salt) that were easy to use. You can also use a pinch of sea salt and a pinch of baking soda to make your own if you like. I found it a little difficult to get the amount of salt just right. If you use too much it burns. Using the little packets is enough of a convenience that I ordered a refill box SinuCleanse Saline Solution 60 Refill Packets SNC-IRG60 of those.

These pots look kind of like a cross between an Aladdin's magic lamp and a teapot and come in all sorts of materials, sizes and brands. They've been around for centuries and used in ancient times which makes them seem kind of exotic. Some are glass or ceramic instead of plastic like this one which isn't really very exotic looking but gets the job done. With my habit of dropping things in the sink, this works just fine. Simple product, easy to use, and it's effective. Two thumbs up!

Customer Review: Miracle solution for clogged sinuses!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter-in-law recommended I try a "Neti Pot" to relieve my infected sinuses. I'd never heard of a Neti-Pot before, so naturally turned to Amazon.com to find out about them. After reading the reviews on this one I figured it was well worth trying for a mere $8.41 including shipping. That's a few bucks less than ONE of the antibiotics the doctor has been prescribing for my sinus infection.

The Neti-Pot arrived today, and I followed the directions (although I used a full packet the first time since I'd previously been using a saline spray for my infection). I used luke-warm water, stirred in the packet, tipped my head down and stuck the thing in my nose. Lifted it, and water began running out of it into my nose. For a second or two nothing seemed to be happening. Then I felt it running into my other sinus cavity, and a little into my throat. I then remembered to begin breathing through my open mouth as directed, and voila! The solution began pouring out of the "open" nostril and into the sink. Then I reversed the procedure, pouring the solution into my other nostril, and out it came on the other side.

I still had a little left over, so poured it into the first nostril again until it was gone. I then blew my nose gently into a tissue, took a couple of deep breaths through my nose, and could not believe the difference. I felt as though I was wearing a permanent "Breath-Right" nasal strip across my nose. Remarkable difference in how "unclogged" my sinuses felt after only one "treatment" from this amazing little device. No discomfort from it being plastic at all!

If you have sinus headaches, or clogged sinus cavities, I HIGHLY recommend trying this Neti-Pot! Best money I ever spent on anything!!!
