Customer Reviews of Smooth Awayâ"¢ Hair Removal System - As Seen on TVCustomer Review: Works, but Hurts. Summary: 3 Stars
I got this to work on the fine hairs on my upper lip. I have always been aware of them, and I finally decided to try something. I knew I could not do waxing (ouch!), and shaving makes hair come in faster and darker, so I thought I would try this.
Pros:
Works after you get the hang of it
Cons:
Hurts like well, sand paper on your skin, b/c it is.
You have to follow the directions, 3 times clockwise, 3 times counterclockwise, and then move on. Using the small pad was a bit odd on the upper lip, since it is small and not flat. The area did burn for about 12 hours...not fun. But the product does work. I might try it on my legs, but I don't know if I want to burn like that on a large area. Then again, my legs are tougher than my upper lip...so maybe.
Bottom Line: Does what it says but be aware this is SAND PAPER on your skin. Not gentle.
Customer Review: Ok so it works but..... Summary: 3 Stars
Ok so it works but...by the time you have rubbed enough to get the hair off your legs you have also succeeded in taking off a layer of skin. It did a pretty good job on my legs leaving them smooth...and burning but that was soothed with a little baby lotion. My face on the other hand was a disaster! Maybe the skin on the face is just too delicate for this product.I don't believe I was overly rough in applying it. But it left the skin on my face burning and on top of that the next morning when I ran my hands over my face there was a small rough patch almost like a scab. It actually scrapped the skin off my face!! Luckily it isn't visible but I can definitely feel it. But yes ladies this is as the other reviewer put it "glorified sand paper". I gave it three stars because it does actually work but -2 stars for the skin I have lost. Maybe it would work better if it wasn't done on dry legs.
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM Summary: 2 Stars
Do not waste your money on this product. It will remove the hair on your legs and arms, but it is time consuming and it does not leave your legs feeling as smooth as a close shave. NEVER, under any circumstance, USE IT ON YOUR UPPER LIP. I'm in my late twenties and recently started to notice little dark hairs on my upper lip (no one else noticed, just me). So, I followed all of the instructions and tried to remove the hair on my upper lip. After rubbing my lip about six times I started to feel some irritation and stopped. I put some ice on the area and waited about thirty minutes. I was so upset when I looked in the mirror because not only did it not remove the hair but it left the area swollen and irritated. The next day the area darkened and it really looked like I had a mustache growing in. I can laugh about it now, but it wasn't so funny when I had to go to work looking like that.
Customer Review: what the heck??? Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered mine from the TV ad and spent way too much money. I've never ordered from TV before...and I never will again. Total piece of crap. It rubbed my skin raw and didn't remove any hair. I even tried it on stiff stubble, and that wasn't any better. I wish I had tried to return it like other reviewers apparently did. Don't know why. I'm usually good about that. My husband calls me the queen of returns.
This product is so crappy and the reviews are so consistently awful, I can't BELIEVE they continue to sell it in good conscience.
I'll say this, though. The lotion it comes with - the hair inhibitor moisturizer cream - worked very well! Though I'm not happy about the money I flushed down the toilet, I'm very happy to have discovered this product. So I guess a thank you is in order...? (If you search for that product you'll see my full review for it there.)
Customer Review: LOVE this for facial hair--works, but pads wear out fast! Summary: 4 Stars
OK, so I love the product. It does work. If you have massively hairy legs, you'll want to shave first, then use the smooth away to maintain. My only gripe is that the pads don't last very long. I usually have to use one pad for my legs to keep it from taking all day. This isn't a product that you just rub across your legs a couple of times and it's done. It usually takes about 3-5 minutes per leg, but it's not messy, so you could pile up in front of the tv, or keep one handy to use whenever you're bored.
I'll come right out and say I have facial hair issues. Shaving is horrible--even if you're very careful you can nick yourself and get ingrown hairs, etc. With smooth away, I don't have issues at all. I'm so very pleased with it!
Use gently as directed and moisturize afterwards (nothing very perfumy is my recommendation) and you'll be pleased!
