Most cordless vibes are wimpy compared to a Hitachi or other plug-in. This one comes close enough to substitute for a Hitachi when no power is available. Great for travel or play parties. The one drawback (and the reason I'm having to replace the previous one): the power switch and battery technology.
The power switch is a slider, with "off" in the center and weak detents. That means it's easy to get bumped to "on" in a drawer or toy bag. If it sits like that for a long time, there's a good chance the vibe is permanently dead. The reason is that one of the multiple battery cells will almost certainly discharge a bit before the others. Then the last bit of charge in the other cells reverse charges the completely dead one. That reversed charged cell is permanently damaged and the whole battery pack will no longer hold a charge.
NiCDs are obsolete battery technology: don't hold as much of a charge as newer NiMH batteries, suffer from memory effect (if you repeatedly partially discharge them they lose their ability to provide their full charge capacity), and they're toxic (cadmium is a heavy metal) and so the vibrator should be disassembled and the battery removed for recycling when it dies.
A better design would use a switch that stays "off" better, and more modern (NiMH) batteries with a protection circuit. But if you're careful not to leave it on, and don't expect a charge to last for a week-long trip, this is a great vibe. If you find a rechargeable that's as good as this one but without the problems, let us know.
