Customer Reviews of Sol Kid Kare SPF 25 Biodegradable Sunscreen 6 OuncesCustomer Review: Didn't work for me Summary: 2 Stars
I didn't have a good experience with this sunscreen. I took it on a vacation to Mexico because most of the natural parks require it. I found that it washed away very quickly while I was in the water. The bottle says to re-apply it every 40 minutes which I did because I hate being sunburned. But as soon as I got into the ocean or pool, it washed off immediately, leaving me exposed and I got burned anyway. We could never get it to absorb completely either. It left a white tint wherever you applied it.
As a physical barrier to the sun, it works great. If you're planning on being in the water, I'd find something else. While I love the idea of it being natural and safe for the environment, I will not be using it on my son. I don't want to run the risk of him being severely burned because it washed off.
Customer Review: Everyone in my family uses this sunscreen Summary: 5 Stars
Caribbean Sol works really well and does not contain any of the scary sunscreen chemicals that harm people or marine life. It has a nice scent, not at all chemical. It goes on whitish because the active ingredients are mineral sun blockers, not chemical sun absorbers, but then disappears after a while, which is an incentive to put it on well before you go outside, which is better for sun protection anyway. It stays put and is non-greasy. The kids' formula is labeled water resistant.
It's a good value for a natural product -- and if you read the labels, a lot of the "natural" sunscreens contain the exact ingredients you want to avoid. Department store cosmetic brands sell sunscreens at twice the price with the same nasty chemicals as the drugstore brands. Choose carefully.
Customer Review: Sol Kid Kare Biodegradable Sunscreen, SPF 25, 6 oz. Summary: 4 Stars
Takes a lot of rubbing and leaves skin with a thin white layer (which is how it does it's job so well), but does an excellent job of blocking the sun and does not cause an allergic reaction like chemical sunscreens do. My skin has not had any sun damage this summer and I live in Texas. We've had 16 days of temperatures over 100 so far, and LOTS of days of blazing sunshine and heat just below 100. In the past my dermatologist had me using Falene SPF 65, which is VERY expensive, and my skin was reacting severely. He said it wasn't an actual allergy but that the sunscreen was too strong. (It itched like an allergy to me!) This works just as well for a fraction of the price. It would seem much better suited as a sunscreen for children than the chemical ones.
Customer Review: Good product Summary: 4 Stars
I started using this on my 6 year old daughter who is sensitive to just about any regular sunscreen on the market. I found this on the "Skin deep: Cosmetic Safety Reviews" website and it was highly rated (low hazard). The active ingredients are mineral based rather than chemical-based. My daughter has very white and sensitive skin. We used this on a beach trip and it worked well. It is necessary to apply 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 45 minutes as the bottle states. When I followed the directions, she did not burn. I have been using it as well. My skin is not so white as my daughter's and so there is a slight whitish tint when I use it.
Customer Review: Worked well on my sun-sensitive skin, a bit hard to rub in Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this sunscreen, even though I had other sunscreen, specifically as a biodegradable sunscreen while I visited Mexico in order to comply with the requirements in some places like Cozumel to protect the environment and reefs. This product came recommended to me and I found the best price on Amazon (even over eBay).
I used the sunscreen on land only and it has a thick consistency that requires alot of rubbing in, much like a physical sunblock ex. zinc oxide. I have very sun sensitive skin and spent 3-4 hours in the sun walking in a t-shirt and shorts with no trouble.
