I purchased this as a gift for a friend. Now, I admit that I don't know much about any of this stuff, but tried my best to do a little homework before purchasing. The iron seems well constructed with a very long cord, which I would imagine would be highly desirable. The element heats up extremely quick, but doesn't have any way to regulate the temprature, which seemed to be a bit of a disadvantage, at least from my prospective. The casing is such that while the element get very hot, the plastic surrounding it does not- at least not to the point where you'll end up buring yourself if you accidently touch the business end. If you looking for a iron but were freaked by the price of the higher end models, this is probably a good way to go.
