Customer Reviews of Soldier Fuel Energy Bars, Real Chocolate, 2.29-Ounce Bars (Pack of 15)Customer Review: "Tastes like a gourmet desert"...Not. Summary: 3 Stars
I was looking for an energy bar with more protein than the regular Clifbar varieties.
It came down to the Clif Builders bar and this one.
This bar is very similar in texture to a Powerbar, which is to say it has that weird, glossy-oily uniform texture throughout with no layering or chocolate coating like the Clif Builder.
The flavor is okay, not great. And certainly NOT anywhere near a "gourmet dessert" as quoted by Dr. Phil on the packaging.
I really don't now how anyone could come up with that statement other than having a lucrative endorsement deal.
Speaking of quotes, I'd really like to know how this came out "#1 in taste tests". #1 compared to what?
On the other hand, that weird texture and lack of chocolate coating would make these ideal in high temperature situations where the Clif Builder would certainly become quite a messy undertaking. You could carry around some Hooah bars in your pants pocket without worry. If that's your application, maybe these would work for you.
In terms of value, since my application is occasional meal replacement I'd much rather spend a little more and have a Clif Builder to look forward to than a Hooah bar.
In my opinion the Clif Builder is by far the best tasting, best textured bar of it's type and has the most protein.
It's more expensive but it really does taste great. Just don't keep them in your pocket!
Customer Review: Tasty, But..... Summary: 2 Stars
I was offered one of these while cycling and thought it was very tasty. So good, in fact, that when I got home I went straight to the web site show on the back of the wrapper to learn where I could buy them. Just above the web address is the nutrition and ingredients list. That was probably a mistake on the manufacturer's part as it gives you something to read while the site comes up. OOPS! This bar has a whooping 25% of your daily allowance of saturated fat! Not only that, but the fat is palm oil.
This might be acceptable for a soldier involved in prolonged strenuous activity but I doubt a cardiologist would recomend it to most of us. A commercially formulated product is more likely to fill the average person's need for a lower fat (and healthier fat) energy bar, than one formulated for extreme physical activity, sold for profit and marketed as a patriotic tribute to the troops. Bottom line: Read the label, weigh the health risks and if you want to support the troops, there has to be a better way than eating Hooah Bars.
Customer Review: I don't support the war, but I support Hooah (and the troops)! Summary: 5 Stars
I randomly encountered this energy bar when I bought some rare Ghanaian highlife CD, and noticed this under "customers who bought this product also bought...HOOAH!" I almost fell on the floor from laughing so hard.
Then i got serious. I'm an energy bar afficionado- since I play soccer first thing in the morning, I need to cram in some quick carbs. But I can't risk eating a proper meal, which might make me throw up after sprinting down the field.
This bar tastes fantastic, and I can attest to the energy kick- I got through *two* games and almost scored a goal! And I have absolutely no eye-foot coordination!!!
From the label: "The battle cry 'Hooah!" is a cornerstone of military culture. It communicates energy, affirmation, can-do spirit, teamwork, and fearlessness. Soldiers shout it as they jump out of helicopters, storm beaches, and freefall behind enemy lines. It means anything and everything except no."
My only hope is that more people eat this so the price comes down.
Customer Review: Five Stars for TASTE :) Summary: 5 Stars
I like both flavors of the HOOAH! Energy Bar. I especially love the chocolate. And yes, I see that the first ingredient is corn syrup, so it's a sugar, however I also see that real chocolate is used :) The bar gives me energy, it tastes GREAT--which is something I truly CANNOT say about a lot of other bars---It is NOT MESSY, not covered in chocolate, but rather the chocolate is in the recipe, so it's in the bar itself, and not on your hands or clothing. In my "chocolate lover's opinion" a "HOOAH!"-of-a-lot better! in taste than some other bars. It's a great energizer, and it tastes great. Mission accomplished. And for fans of anysoldier dot com who might be sending packages to U.S. Soldiers, it's nice to toss a couple in a "snack" package...or just send a whole box. I like this product! And I even like the silver packaging too.
Customer Review: Almost like "no-bake" cookies Summary: 5 Stars
Do you remember those "no-bake" cookies that are easy to make with oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate? Well, these bars taste almost exactly like "no-bake" cookies. I'm not kidding. They are great! I first had them at Philmont Scout Ranch when I was working and hiking there a couple of summers ago. Well, these bars are hard to find at just any store, so I'm glad that I can order them at Amazon. I have tried other brands of energy bars and they just aren't as good. Most energy bars taste OK for one or two bites, but quickly begin to taste like cardboard. These are good from the first bite to the last. My husband loves the peanut butter flavor and I love the chocolate crisp, but we'll both eat which ever we have on hand. We buy several boxes a month as we are both avid bicylists and hikers.
