Customer Reviews of Sonic Alert SB300 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock with Large Display

Customer Review: It's loud or it shakes the bed, or both...
Summary: 4 Stars

For 11 years I've slept next to a man who sleeps through every alarm no matter how loud and then hits the snooze button at least 6 times once he's finally heard the alarm. This gets quite annoying. In search of something that might wake only my husband and allow me to sleep until I actually needed to get out of bed, I came across this alarm clock. We've had it for several months now.

Here's what I can tell you about it:
1. It's ugly. It's just an alarm clock. They've made no attempt to make it stylish or have any design at all. It's just a clumsy, slightly inclined to tip over, plastic box with a very large display.
2. You can set it to the alarm which is amazingly loud - I mean ear-splitting, wake the entire house, scare the dog, loud. Or you can set it to vibrate mode with no sound. Or you can set it to do both.
3. The vibrating mode will wake up the other person sleeping in the bed. But it will probably wake up the person it's supposed to wake up too. Something about your pillow vibrating beneath your head seems to create better results (at least in this house) than just an alarm. It's a strong vibration.
4. Often, the vibrating disk will move up against the headboard and make a loud buzzing/knocking sound which is not nearly as pleasant to wake up to as just the bed vibrating a bit.
5. I would much rather wake up to my bed vibrating than to an earful of sirens which is what most alarms sound like.

I like this alarm. It isn't exactly what I was hoping for because it still wakes me up too and I often still have to whack my husband in the arm to get him to shut it off but it's a better way to wake up. Sometimes, if I'm really zonked, it doesn't wake me up at all and my husband just lies there in his own puddle of drool vibrating away for at least an hour before it wakes him up. That's fine by me.

Customer Review: Great product!!
Summary: 4 Stars

This alarm clock is great, I've bought it twice because my mom took my first one!!! The vibrating function on these alarms are unreal. I WILL NOT wake up to any normal beeping alarm. I consistently woke up with my old alarms after having them go off for 15-20 minutes causing me to be late several times.

With this alarm clock and the vibrator underneath my pillow, I don't even need the beeping to wake up anymore.

I highly recommend this product or one of the several different Sonic Alert alarms as I am pretty sure they are all similar.

I only give it 4/5 because the snooze button isn't big enough and it's hard to find when you're real groggy.

***UPDATE 02/03/11***

After two years of usage, I can say that this was probably one of my best purchases on Amazon. The clock is still performing at its best, unfortunately some of the switches (alarm/time) are slowly getting stuck/harder to move, when you're half asleep trying to change the alarm time, it's pretty annoying.

I have recently purchased a Philips Wake-Up Light Philips Hf3470/60 Wake-up Light, White
to replace this one (after reading the rave reviews of waking up feeling more refreshed, less "jarred") and will be trialing the Philips light for several more weeks.

Don't worry though, I still plan on having my Sonic Boom nearby and as a backup alarm just in case, and will definitely use it again if the Philips light fails me. If anyone is having trouble sleeping through an alarm clock, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this clock.

Customer Review: Revolutionized Alarm Clock
Summary: 5 Stars

So to start, I'll mention that I'm 18, a full time student and a full time employee. On a nightly basis I would be lucky to get more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep each night. I wake up at 6 a.m. every morning and go to sleep from anywhere at 11 p.m. to 2a.m. because of my study habits.

Now, before I got this alarm clock I had two previous clocks set up. One high frequency, the iHome, and one low frequency, which I bought at Target. Between these two alarm clocks, both going off at 6 a.m., it would sound like a fire truck was parked in my room and the driver had the sirens on. And yet, I wouldn't wake up to this, at all. If it wasn't for my mother I wouldn't wake up. To digress, she resorted to a spray bottle...

Nonetheless, the first night I set this alarm clock up I already had a bias, just another clock claiming to be the best. I was proven wrong. I took out one alarm clock, changed the iHome to music instead of the high frequency beeps, and placed the vibrator, no pun intended, under my mattress. At 6 a.m. I woke to the vibrator ONLY (the times were off so it went off first.) Excuse my language, but damn, I was amazed. The best part about it was it doesn't startle you or you don't wake up in a frantic scare. It... hmmm... pulls you out of your sleep. This thing is amazing, and as the title states, it revolutionized alarm clocks for those of us who are dead sleepers!

Customer Review: Sonic Alert "Shake Awake" Alarm Clock
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered the "Shake Awake" alarm clock because I regularly sleep through 3 different alarms that I set each night. Has it helped me wake up? Well, yes and no. The clock itself has a sleek design, but is not very functional. It stands tall on your dresser and looks nice, but when you hit the snooze alarm or try to turn it off or reset it, it always tips over. It even comes with a "stability" peg that you place in the back of the clock to help it stand up - obviously a design flaw that the company tried to correct after manufacturing, but it's not very sturdy. The large number display is great, especially in the middle of the night for those of us who wear glasses during the day but are blind as a bat when the glasses are off at night. The alarm itself is more annoying than loud. The "shake awake" part is actually pretty cool. The vibration definitely wakes me up. It would be nice if you could change the shake patterns - some nights continuous, other nights short bursts, sometimes both on other nights - but that is not an option. The shake awake disc actually gets pretty hot when it vibrates, so be sure to put it under your pillow and not inside your pajamas. All in all, a good product - nice design, easy to read display and a great "shake awake" function. If you are considering buying this product - do it!

Customer Review: Extremely happy with it- does just what we needed.
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this for my 13 year old to be able to wake up for school (6:30am) and not wake up his little brother who sleeps in the same room together with him.

It works like a charm, one of the best things I've bought (now I don't have to wake up then to wake him up!)
i.e. we use the vibratiing mechanism, slipped under his pillow- it goes bananas - no way to oversleep.
We don't use the sound alarm (as mentioned) so I can't really comment on that other than the fact that it is LOUD.

My one gripe with the product is that the vibrating mechanism literally goes bananas shaking and if my son doesn't wake up immediately it ends up falling on the floor. When it shakes (convulses) on the floor it makes too much noise - defeating the purpose. As a simple work around, we're planning on sewing/taping the pillow shut so that the mechanism can't slip out and onto the floor.
For this reason I rated it 4 out of 5 (instead of a full 5 stars).
But I'm very happy with it and planning to get one for my oldest daughter.
