Customer Review: Effective until it malfunctions

This alarm clock is generally effective, with the ample vibrating along with a loud alarm if you need even more push to get out of bed.
The problem is the clock unit. It feels cheap, and performs only so-so. It appears as though it was purchased in a dollar store, or at the check-out counter at your local convenience store. You have to push the buttons hard to change the alarm time, etc. The buttons feel as though they have a weak electrical connection. They don't contact unless you really press on them. It is a poor design and cheaply made. Also, it doesn't keep good time.
Worst of all, after only 6 months or so, the clock malfunctioned. I woke up to the vibrating puck going off (erradically) and I could not shut it off. Turning the alarm "off" like I do every morning had no effect. I had to unplug the vibrating device. There's one thing that alarm clocks need to be, and that is DEPENDABLE. This one is not.

My family jokes that I could sleep through a nuclear blast, but this alarm clock really does the trick. It's super loud and changing the pitch really makes a difference. The lights don't do anything for me though. The best part is the vibrating disc. I tuck in inside my pillow; it's not too jarring, but still wakes me up. It also works, although not as well for me, under the mattress. There are two reasons I gave it 4 stars rather than 5. The first is that the cord for the vibrator (insert joke here) is not long enough. I am the sort of person that smacks the snooze or off button and goes back to sleep without even realizing it. I need to keep the clock across the room, so I was forced to buy the $11 extension cord. Also, the image on the site is of an analog clock (with hands), which I thought was really groovy. I was disappointed when it showed up and was just a regular old digital clock, but not disappointed enough to send it back.Customer Review: It works, but with a small glitch.

If you have a loud neighbor or live in a noisy neighborhood, this is probably the cheapest way to deal with it. I'm the kind of person who doesn't fall and stay asleep easily (very sensitive to noise) so I found this solution: Use a pair of soft foam earplugs (available at Target, drug stores, etc.) so I can hardly hear anything when I go to sleep, and use the vibrating function of the Sonic Boom alarm clock to wake me up.
However, I wouldn't recommend this clock if you're contantly using its buzzing function because there's a modest, single "beep" sound right before the buzzing sound goes off, and you can't adjust the volume of that "beep" sound. Therefore, if you're like me, who keeps the buzzing sound of the alarm at very low level, you will feel uncomfortable (or even a little shocked) by that initial "beep" sound, since its louder than a low level buzzing sound.

This Alarm clock is not a bad investment at all. It definitely wakes me up every morning. I bought it for the vibrator.
I'll only list the cons about this alarm clock since you guys pretty can tell the pros by looking at the specs.
- I wish the Phone cord is detachable just like all the other cords.
- The Alarm clock gets hot on certain spots and even hotter if you use the vibrator, which makes me become more skeptical of things made in China.. The plastic part I was touching is not burning hot, but I wonder if the inside could boil an egg at that temperature.
-I would not but this clock for the sound alarm because it only comes pre-set with four sounds and all four of those are pretty horrendously annoying. Well I guess that's the whole point of an alarm clock, but still.

Received this product promptly, the vibrating function is very effective. I assume the clock gets very loud... I have the noise setting turned to the lowest setting and still it is more than enough to wake me effectively. This isn't the standard alarm clock beep but rather a unique wailing siren... not quite as annoying as I make it sound but certainly a startling noise. Anything louder and I'd be waking up scared senseless, and as it is the effect is enough to provide my cat quite a shock each morning.
Well worth the money, great product. My only gripe is that the product featured in the image on this page is NOT the clock being sold. Although the specs are correct, the clock has a digital display and not the traditional analog arms shown in the picture.
