Customer Reviews of Sonic Boom Alarm ClockCustomer Review: Great multifunctional alarm clock Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the Sonic Boom Alarm Clock about a month ago, because I have to sleep with earplugs to get to sleep, but then kept sleeping through my traditional alarm. I have been using the Sonic Boom Alarm Clock set to vibrate and the vibration has woken me every time. My husband says he can "feel" when it goes off in the basement (below the bedroom)! The alarm does seem a little flimsy, but what doesn't, nowadays. The cord for the vibrator isn't terribly long, but I have a nightstand next to the bed and it reaches well. Really like that it can be set to buzz, vibrate, buzz + vibrate, and no alarm. The buzz alarm is pretty loud, but also set at a tone that can peel paint off the wall. The alarm clock is also able to be set in a 24 hour setting. Over the last month, I have not had any troubles with the alarm lossing or gaining time. As of right now, I am very happy with this purchase. I choose not to give it a 5 star rating cause 1) it does feel like cheap plastic, 2) the wire for the vibrator can tangle if not well placed, 3) although you can "dim" the display, it always glows (not just when the snooze is pressed) and as I am a sensitive sleeper, I don't like the light, and 4) the snooze button is not obvious, which is particullary bad when you are half-asleep trying to find it. But, to date, best alarm that I have purchased and as of right now, the last alarm that I will purchase.
Customer Review: Pssst. It's time to wake up. Summary: 5 Stars
This alarm is a God send. I am an extremely deep sleeper. I've owned the loudest alarms created. After a little adjustment, I can sleep through any alarm. When I do hear an alarm, it is usually so obnoxious that it puts me an a foul mood.
I've had this alarm for a few weeks. It's amazing. I wake up every time it goes off. There's a vibrating disc that you can place under your mattress or pillow. I place mine between my mattress and box spring. The vibrations happen intermittently, which probably keeps one from habituating to the shaking. The kicker is that it's really pleasent to wake up to. I don't have to hear this screaming alarm that wakes up my whole neighborhood anymore. The alarm does have an audio setting but I prefer just having the vibration.
In terms of travel size, I've already taken it with me on a trip. It's not that small. It's three pieces but I can always find the room in my suitcase. It needs a converter if you want to use it on 220 current internationally. The alarm also connects to a 9-volt battery but the battery is only useful if the electricity goes out. You cannot set the alarm unless it is plugged in. Hopefully, the company will fix that in the next model.
If you have a really difficult time waking up in the morning, I would definately recommend giving this alarm a try.
Customer Review: A necessity for me. Summary: 5 Stars
I am not deaf or hard of hearing, but I am very likely the deepest sleeper I know (I don't know of any deaf people either). I now have 3 alarms, counting this one, each of which are capable of waking up people 2-3 rooms away in my house... yet this one is the most useful, because I've been waking up much more reliably with it. I am such a deep sleeper that there have been times that I've woken up with my ears ringing, except my alarms had been going off for almost an hour or more.
Despite having incredibly loud alarms, I usually remain sound asleep while someone a couple of rooms down wakes up and storms angrily into my room and throws a tantrum at me for waking them up with my alarms. The volume knob on this alarm goes all the way up to '10', but even at '6' it would wake up people in other rooms, if that's any reference.
I place the disc between the mattress and box spring. The vibration is powerful enough to shake my entire queen mattress, and if placed flat on your palm the disc would probably vibrate right off. This product probably isn't suitable if you're getting it just to wake yourself up but want to avoid waking up your spouse, since even the disc alone will probably wake them up as well.
The small snooze button is great as well. It's less easier to press, requiring a bit more effort to get it to shut up.
Customer Review: Great alarm Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this alarm because I had recently got a second job at night so I was only getting 5-6 hours of sleep after working 14-16 hours a day. I was having problems just sleeping through my alarm and hitting snooze without even knowing! I needed this because I was looking for the loudest alarm clock available. This alarm is very loud, but not 110 dB or so like it states. Even then it is still loud but I do NOT have the best of hearing.
It sits about 4 feet from me on my dresser and I was not going to use the vibration function at first but when I was testing it out i just had it sitting on top of the dresser and it started banging and clanging on the top of dresser and it actually makes more noise vibrating and banging and clanging on top of the dresser than the actual buzzer. So then I just use it like that, along with the buzzer, and have just a short 1" of wire exposed from the back of the vibration unit and it is taped to the back of the dresser so it doesn't go shooting off the dresser or anything. Sounds like someone banging on the walls with drumsticks.
Conclusion, this is a great product if you have trouble waking up or half waking up and falling back asleep. Also putting it out of arms reach also helps you wake up because then you have to actually get completely out of bed to turn it off.
Customer Review: Does the job Summary: 5 Stars
I am profoundly deaf in both ears and wear hearing aids but do no sleep with them in. It has been frustrating to find an alarm clock that I can use that would wake me. Did I mention that I sleep so soundly that thunderstorms and smoke alarms do not wake me. Needless to say, I do not hear alarm clocks normally.
I highly recommend this clock for all you sound sleepers or hard of hearing people. The Sonic Boom Alarm Clock is loud and the vibration is gentle but effective. The first night I set the alarm and the vibrator. Both woke me almost instantly. The alarm was loud even for me and I have at least a 90 dB loss in both ears. Normal hearing starts at around 10 dB.
I placed the small vibrator under my mattress which has a pillow top on it so it is thick. I easily felt the vibration. It is not jarring or shocking but gentle. I have found it to be a pleasant way to wake up. And it does wake you up.
The light itself on the clock is bright but I turn it away from me when I sleep and it doesn't bother me. The time is very easy to read also. It is small enough that you could pack it in a suitcase and use it when travelling. Another problem for me since I don't hear the phone ring for a wake-up call.
I definetly recommend this clock since it truly works well and was reasonably priced.
