Customer Reviews of Sonic Boom Alarm ClockCustomer Review: Just as obnoxious as I had hoped! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a chronic oversleeper and have tried every trick in the books with conventional alarms. I've moved it across the room or under my bed so I have to get up to turn it off, I've changed the alarm noise every day to keep it annoying, I've set multiple alarm clocks, etc... Nothing worked until I bought this critter! I've had it for a few months now and it continues to make me literally jump out of bed every morning. The cord from the clock to the vibrating pod is fairly long, so I am able to put the pod under my fitted sheet and still put the clock a safe distance from my bed - just in case I do try to hit snooze. It also has a super obnoxious beeping that you can activate with or without the vibrating, and you can change the intensity of the vibrating (keep your dirty jokes to yourself!). It doesn't have radio, but that really doesn't bug me and the vibrating is strong enough that if I don't turn it off quick enough it will wake up my husband but those are the only two possible downsides I have noticed. Be warned - if you are just looking for a "fun" alarm clock, this is not for you. This thing is seriously obnoxious and should only be purchased by the habitual oversleeper who has constantly proven that while sleeping they have the speed and prowess of a Cobra when it comes to silencing the average alarm clock.
Customer Review: Effective alarm, technical difficulties Summary: 3 Stars
I've always struggled with getting out of bed on time, and this is definitely hands-down the most effective alarm for actually waking me up. BUT -- and this is a HUGE but -- half the battle in waking up on time is a) making sure the alarm goes off every time, and b) not being able to easily turn the alarm off when you only meant to push snooze. I have had trouble setting this alarm to make sure it goes off every morning, without actually daily checking the alarm at the current time and then re-setting it to the morning time. I'm not sure what causes this, and I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that there are two ways to turn off the alarm (a switch on the side as well as an "alarm off" button on the top). I've also found it really easy to turn the alarm off instead of pushing snooze, because the snooze button is no larger than the other ones, and when you're half-asleep and your bed is shaking and it sounds like there's a fire alarm going off in your bedroom, you are not in the best state to wisely choose which little button to smack.
Because of these problems I've had to stop using this alarm, but I'm considering getting the newer larger-display version in the hope that it won't have these problems.
Customer Review: Great while it lasted Summary: 2 Stars
Before I was unable to wake up to any sort of alarm. I would hit the snooze and not even know it. If I moved the alarm across the room I would just ignore it until it went off. When I bought this, I was able to wake up without issue, I wasn't late to work or school anymore. This all lasted up until a month and a few days (just long enough so I couldn't return it). The vibrator died on me and as long as it was plugged into the alarm clock, the alarm wouldn't even sound.
The alarm by itself wasn't as helpful as a combination of the two but it work more or less. Now 4 months later, I can't set my alarm to anything but XX:50-59. It just runs around in a loop between 56-06 if I try to change it, and if I have it above XX:59, it just resets to XX:50 whenever it feels like it.
I'm pretty disgusted that this was so poorly made. It's still under warranty so I'll try another one but I doubt I'll have a different experience. I'll probably end up have to spend more for a better one such as this Clarity CLARITY-WAKE Wake Assure. If this actually works longer than 4 months, it would be the best alarm clock in the world. As it stands, this is pretty much garbage.
Customer Review: Sonic Boom is the Bomb! Summary: 5 Stars
Like most parents on the review page, I have a 20-year old son that has always had trouble waking up in the morning. The last straw was when he overslept and missed his mid-term exams. I was willing to pay a lot more money for an effective wake-up solution after that fiasco.
And then I found the Sonic Boom. I purchased it as a Christmas present for him and held my breath to see if it would actually work. I am pleased to report that the first morning he used the Sonic Boom, it woke my son up so effectively that he said he didn't need a shower to wake up that first morning (basically, it scared him awake with both the sound and the vibration... hee hee hee).
He now reports that this clock wakes him up EVERY morning. The only downside is that it also wakes up his roommate and the poor girl in the next apartment (her bedroom is adjacent to my son's room).
This clock has been a God-send not only for me, but for my son as well. I think it has given him a bit more confidence that he has something that finally works and he won't be missing anymore classes or mid-terms! And that makes Dad extremely happy!
Customer Review: HORRIBLY UNRELIABLE!!! Summary: 1 Stars
PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS CLOCK FOR MORE THAN ONE MONTH!!! I bought it for my daughter, who goes to USC. For a month, it was awesome. 'Woke her up for very early classes, like no other clock. BUT..... it then would sometimes not go off at all. Some mornings it would work----- other mornings it would not go off at all, and other mornings, it would go off 44-90 minutes LATE! For a couple of weeks, we thought it was her own fault for not turning it on.... or for re-setting the time incorrectly. After some completely missed (and VERY expensive) classes, and some to which she arrived late, AND after the 30-day return period, there was NO DOUBT that the clock was garbage. What is worse than relying on something (or someone) and have it be inconsistent?? It would be better if it hadn't worked at all--- then one would know to rely on something else. There "otta be a law!!!!" Seriously--- if this had cost more,(and I would have paid over a hundred for something that REALLY worked) I would sue this company!! Classes missed at my daughter's university are valued over a thousand dollars! Do NOT buy!
