Take this from a Hypersomniac,
I have been an extremely heavy sleeper all my life. My mom would tell me that I could sleep through a war. I've asked people to come kick me or throw me out of the bed at 6:00, so I can make it to work. I was the teenager who was had to take night classes because morning class was too early for me, even if I slept for 8 hours.
This clock is not as loud as my old magnavox alarm clock, but it has this horror movie alarm sound that is unbearable to listen too. The vibrating disc shakes very strong and will make you jump awake. I would not recommend this to light sleepers or weak hearted. The material is OK. It looks cheap and feels very light, so I don't put it on a high area because if it fell, it would be history. I woke up after the first alarm. Very jumpy with a fast beating heart, but it worked. The only alarm ever to get me up the first time. This alarm is what I needed in my life. A great investment on my behalf. If a top Manufacturer were to produce something similar to this, I would probably invest in a better quality product. This does the job for now.

I bought this alarm, and the Sonic Boom Sonic Bomb Loud for my boyfriend. He was always telling me he was missing work because he didn't have an alarm and he never heard his mom calling him. Now he doesn't want to use either clock because he's afraid it will wake him up!!! lol I've heard the sound of this clock over the internet when he was testing it - it would wake ME up, even if I heard it over Skype! He has started using this clock, but only the vibrator pad (he thinks turning the sound on would make it too efficient). He didn't think it would do much to wake him up - he's using it in his office where he often falls asleep on his couch, and he put the vibrator under one of the couch cushions. I kinda doubted it would do much in that position, but he has told me since that it definitely wakes him up! He says it's not at all a soothing sort of vibration - it's annoying and wakeful. And what annoys him even more is that he has to get up to turn it off - he can't reach the snooze from where he is! lol ;) I would consider both purchases a good investment, if he actually used them. :)Customer Review: You have to be kidding me

This alarm clock should be used to terrorize sleeping inmates at guantanamo prison. When it goes off, you are lucky if you don't go into a complete state psychological and motorological disturbance. Im pretty sure the sensation they were trying to create was like this: "hey you, i want you to sleep in the barrell of that nuclear powered cannon every night for a week, and one night, when your in a deep sleep im going to set it off and fire you through 600 yards of restricted airspace into a seaworld tank filled with rabbid starved piranhas. This alarm clock should only be used if you are willing to trade 5 to 10 years of your life for absolute guaranteed wakeup--and a side of nervous system damage. The sound is the loudest and most freightening noise you can think of, and the thing that vibrates your bed makes you want to use a defribulator on your face just so you knock yourself out. I highly recommend this, especially if you can only get a few hours in and if you don't wake up, the locomotive you're driving will destroy an entire population of gifted children. buy it.Customer Review: Works Great - but not for Long! - Beware

I am a very heavy sleeper, just like many of you and my fellow reviewers. Friends slap me and i still don't wake up. This alarm clock wakes me up very well, and I used ot for about 5 months, relying on it to wake me up for some very very important times, and it worked beautifully.
HOWEVER, just last night i woke up to the vibrator going off 2 hours early, (the alarm was set to Vib + Buzz) and no tinkering with the controls and settings would stop it, so i was forced to unplug it, and in my grogginess went back to sleep. Later on, when the actual alarm time came by, the Buzzer failed to go off, and when my cell phone alarm woke me up, i noticed that the time was now fast by about 16 minutes, and it was not my doing!
I went through some other reviews for the other Sonic Alert models, and found a couple reviewers who complained about the same thing happening to them.
I will admit that I want to order another one, but will look to make sure there is no other alternative that might be more reliable. Buyer beware.

As others have said, both the shaker and the audio alarm are great on this clock. Not only does it wake me up, it wakes me up instantly. Been using it for a few months now, and I'm not getting used to it and sleeping through it like I eventually do w/ other clocks. I put the shaker between mattress & box spring, not under my pillow, and it works great.
The clock itself is pretty bad though. My biggest complaint is that there are a bunch of small buttons on the top, all the same size, and one of them is the snooze button and one of them turns the alarm off completely. Try making sure you're hitting the right one when you're half asleep and trying to get 10 more mins. Terrible design there, makes snooze almost worthless.
Other problems: body is flimsy, easy to tip; controls to set time & alarm are primitive even compared to some $10 target clocks; power cord is very easy to yank out of the back on accident; brightness of the display is too bright for me even on the low setting.
So a mixed bag, I'd say.
