Customer Reviews of Sonic Boom SBB500ss Sonic Bomb Loud Plus Vibrating Alarm Clock

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an incredible alarm clock! I do not work as I have multiple sclerosis, but I still try to maintain regular nighttime sleep hours. I have recently gone through three alarm clocks that I purchased at a major retailer. I would even set all three clocks simultaneously but some mornings would wake up on my own two hours after the alarms had gone go off. Some advertisers will claim that this clock is comparable to a jack hammer while others claim a volume of 113 decibels, these are simply exaggerations. Although this clock does not meet these claims, the volume is much louder than anything you will find off the shelf. The adjustable volume and tone allow you to vary the settings so that you do not become accustomed to any one tone or volume. When waking up, the off switch is difficult to find and you almost always hit the snooze button before you can find the off button. I consider this a good thing, as you have to be more widely awake and attentive to find the off button. If you sleep through this alarm, you most likely do not have a "waking up" problem, but probably have a "getting out of bed problem" which the clock will not resolve. The vibrating disk does an excellent job by itself, and is a nice addition.

Customer Review: Saved my Job
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this unit awesome. I am a VERY deep sleeper and can pretty much sleep through anything. After years of being late for work and trying numerous alarms including a timer on my light switch to basically shine a spotlight in my face (ceiling lights with flood light bulbs in them) I had enough especially when I was almost fired and was written up. I decided to search for hard of hearing alarms and came across this. It isn't the prettiest alarm but man with the shaker under my pillow and this thing full blast scared the hell outta me and I haven't been late for work since. It did start keeping incorrect time after a while but the warranty was for 1 year and they replaced it very quickly. I had sent it out on a Tuesday and had a new one by Friday. I did read one comment about the alarm not timing out and you do have to realize this is for the hard of hearing and deep sleepers so that was one problem I had with other alarms and ended up just pressing snooze without remembering I woke up that I then slept late so this keeps you from doing that so I see this as a pro and def not a con. I've been so happy with this that I'm looking to by a travel one also and would def recommend this to anyone in my same situation.

Customer Review: This alarm has PRESENCE!
Summary: 4 Stars

It's pretty LOUD! I cannot say whether or not it's the loudest on the planet, because I have no other such marketed alarms to measure it against. It's safe to say that if everyone in the house needed awakened at the same time, the Sonic Bomb could be placed in any room and all would clearly hear it (leaving the decision to get out of bed with each individual).
The clock even took a fall onto a hard floor recently since it was "installed" and still works well, and the additional vibrating disk adds presence to the alarm going off with it pinned up against a wall and bed mattress, rattling away in it's own loud sense. Even IF the alarm portion of the clock were to quit working, the vibrating disk would do the trick for most heavy sleepers because it is that annoying unto itself.
If anyone needs more than this LOUD alarm offers, then I'd suggest wiring a car alarm or car horns to your already existing alarm clock like the guy in the YouTube video did, but I don't want to get frightened out of bed like he does--that would be hard on the heart over time.

Customer Review: Awsome. Check the switch on the back for htz and you're good to go.
Summary: 4 Stars

Note: if you find it doesn't keep time properly, check the switch on the back and make sure it is set to the proper htz. there are 2: 60 and 50. One for US, the other for the rest of the world.

I am NOT a morning person. I tend to work 12-15 hours and -then- I get to go home. Everyday, 5 days a week... or 7. When you are lucky to get 4 hours a night and have to get up before dawn (most recently 21 days in a row of work) this thing has really done the trick waking me up. Getting up is another story, but it DOES wake me up. I only wish the cords were longer so I would acutally have to get out of bed to turn it off.

The volume is awsome, and between the matress and the box spring, it makes some noise as well. If you find you need the noise, be careful slapping the snooze button as you could turn the volume down (volume for buzz sound is just to the right of the large snooze button on top).

Other than those two things, (short cords for power and shaker, and volume too close to snooze) I'm very pleased. Best alarm clock I've ever had.

Customer Review: Last resort, finally success
Summary: 5 Stars

I've spent tons of money trying all kinds of alarms... CDs with annoying sounds, light alarms that simulate sunshine. Nothing worked. Until I got this. I don't use the buzzer portion, so I can't comment on that, but the shaker wakes me up every time. In fact, I set the shaker alarm to go off in the middle of my 30 minute wake CD I made, and I remember nothing before the shaker went off. I stopped using the CD altogether and now just use the shaker as my alarm.

I've only had this a month, so I can't speak to the people who say the shaker stops working after a while. If it does, I'll be sure to repost. But so far, I haven't gotten used to the shaking and slept through it the way I have other alarms, it still wakes me as well as it did the first day. So for those of you who are having trouble with sound alarms, over sleep with no memory of your alarm going off, for the price, this is worth trying. I wish I had found this before I spent hundreds on other alarms. Bottom line, I haven't been late with this alarm yet. That alone is enough for 5 stars for me.
