Customer Reviews of Sonic Boom SBB500ss Sonic Bomb Loud Plus Vibrating Alarm ClockCustomer Review: Works, but dissapointing Summary: 3 Stars
A little about myself, i'm 23 and could sleep through an air raid siren. When my alarm goes off i frequently turn it off in my sleep... even if it's strategically placed on the other side of the room.
113 decibels sounds like it should be really loud. A jack hammer is rated around 100-110 db, an average rock concert is rated 110-120 db.
While the tone is variable and annoying the overall volume level isn't as spectacular as i thought. I was hoping for something short of making my ears bleed. This just doesn't deliver and I'm let down.
The bed shaker seems cool, I'll see how it works, but i can se it getting dislodged from under my pillow, the only place it seems to be effective.
It has a small 'strobe' light on the front, assuming a dark room that might be mildly useful.
Overall it is worth keeping at this point, but I don't know if i would buy it again if it were stolen. Time and it's effectiveness in waking me up will answer that story.
Customer Review: wake up... WAKE UP! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for a daughter who seems to have the female version of Low-T, she cannot wake up in the morning and has tried several combinations of alarm clocks. Seems that eventually she does a mind-meld with them and eventually they all become incorporated into her dreams - she 'learns' to sleep right through everyone and is ultimately late for work.
Thus far no problem with the Sonic Boom (now over a month of use). Perhaps we've hit on something! The combination of vibrator for the pillow (only used occasionally to break the routine), the dial frequency of the alarm and the flashing lights on the display (works if you're facing the display but a nice touch and can be a safety valve under certain circumstances) are all great 'must' features.
Needless to say, you can't beat it for the price. Nothing is forever for the living dead in the morning but if you're having trouble, this one is a good one for your inventory and can be used on and off as you cycle through your wakeup tools.
Customer Review: Pretty Effective Summary: 5 Stars
I am easily the deepest sleeper I know and I'm constantly sleeping through alarm clocks. I've tried setting multiple at a time, one of the ones where a top flies off that has to be retrieved to turn off and nothing seems to work. This one was alright. I love the vibrating piece that goes under your mattress. That is probably the defining part of this alarm clock. It assaults three senses to wake you up by vibrating your bed, blinking bright lights above the time, and being probably the loudest I've owned. You can adjust the volume as well as the pitch of the noise on the alarm clock which is also cool. So if you wake up better to a higher pitch sound or a lower pitch sound you can use either on a wide range (dial) of options. My only complaint with this and similar alarm clocks is that they have snooze buttons that are easy to use and use and use until I'm back where I was sleeping through alarm clocks. I wish I could disable them and have to get up or turn it off. Though I'd probably just turn it off.
Customer Review: Very dissapointing quality Summary: 1 Stars
I had this alarm clock for about a month, and everything was great, it would wake me well (which is no small feat) and all was good in the world. Then one day I woke up, and when I turned the alarm off the shaker was still running, so I did some troubleshooting and couldn't see anything that was wrong with it, I tried unplugging the shaker from the clock, the clock from the wall, I tried everything and the thing wouldn't stop buzzing.
Ok, I thought, it is still louder than my old alarm clock and keeps good time, so I'll keep it around, even though the shaker was, in my opinion, the best feature of the device. Well, it turns out I was wrong, it now picks up about 10 minutes per hour, and I have to re-set the clock every night before I go to bed, it was really wearing on my nerves, so I finally decided to just go back to my old alarm.
Don't waste your money on this, they really need improve the quality of this product before I will ever think to recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: Earth shaking alarm Summary: 5 Stars
I am used to sleeping through alarm clocks after I get used to the same monotonous tone, but with the volume this clock goes up to along with the bed vibrator makes that difficult. I will say that the volume is nowhere near that of a jackhammer as is advertised, however this is an extremely loud alarm clock. This clock also has adjustable tone, which for me is great because I can alternate between the tones so that I do not get used to just one. The large number display is also nice because I can read it from across my room easily without my glasses. Finally I would like to comment on the LED lights. Although they are more fore show than anything else, when the alarm goes off in the morning (I have it facing me in bed) the LED's are bright enough bother my eyes the same way flipping on my room light does when I first wake up early while it is still dim outside. Sorry is the previous sentence is awkward. In conclusion I would recommend this clock to all you deep sleepers out there.
