Customer Reviews of Sonic Boom SBB500ss Sonic Bomb Loud Plus Vibrating Alarm Clock

Customer Review: Overpriced, and not THAT loud...
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this because I'm a DEEP sleeper (have slept right a fire alarm that woke the rest of the house) and was in search of the perfect alarm to ensure I get to work on time.
Unfortunately, I paid $30 for little more than your standard $5 alarm you can find at Walmart, with the added bonus of a vibrate feature (a feature that I don't find very effective either). I switched to this alarm from the "American Innovative Neverlate 7-Day Alarm Clock" and will most likely be switching back. I miss having a radio to wake up to because a constant beep (the Sonic Boom only has beep, no radio) just doesn't wake me. In fact, I found the blaring sound of the radio from my "Neverlate" to be LOUDER than the Sonic Boom and more effective at getting me up.

All in all, this isn't a bad alarm, it just isn't the alarm for me. Deep sleepers, consider looking elsewhere for an alarm.
I guess my quest for the perfect alarm continues...

Customer Review: Does the job
Summary: 4 Stars

While not as loud as I had hoped, it's still louder than the average alarm clock. What's nice about it is you can change the pitch of the alarm as well as the volume to create the most annoying sound possible for your own ears. This, coupled with the vibrator under the pillow, does a sufficient job of scaring me awake with a jolt every morning. Whereas I used to sleep through any alarm for several minutes to several hours, I have yet to sleep more than a second through this one. While scaring myself awake isn't exactly pleasant, it's a lot better than being late every day because of sleeping through the alarm! I highly recommend this product for the heavy sleeper.
Minor cons (why it didn't get 5 stars): plastic does feel a bit cheap, but no cheaper than the average alarm clock. Even with the "dimmer" switch on, the display is still annoyingly bright. Should be made louder for those who are hard of hearing.

Customer Review: Works, but only for a while.
Summary: 2 Stars

The vibrator function is AWESOME. As long as it works. I actually have a problem with thin walls in the apartment and was waking up neighbors with my alarm clocks - this seemed to be a perfect solution to the problem.

It worked GREAT for about a month; then the vibrator function began spazzing out. And by spazzing out - I mean it would run in the middle of the night. It would short out. It would buzz twice, then quit. Finally, it just stopped working altogether. I troubleshot it, I checked connections, made sure I wasn't dreaming that it wasn't working.

If I wanted a really LOUD alarm clock, I'd just throw the iPod dock I have onto a stereo and crank up the volume. The appearance of this clock isn't all that sexy, either - I bought it because it was the only thing that buzzed the bed in the morning. Now that doesn't work, and I'm out the $30 plus shipping for it.

Customer Review: Better Than Most Cheap Alarm Clocks, But Not Worth $42
Summary: 1 Stars

This is generally louder than most $10-$40 alarm clocks you find in the store. Although it's not as loud as I expected (but it is pretty loud than most alarm clocks). Unless you have some use for virbrating function (which I had no use for), it is not worth the $42.

I own a Magnavox Model MCR140 alarm clock (normal alarm clock purchased at the store) and it is EXTREMELY LOUD. I was so impressed with it when I bought it that I went back the next week and bought another one. You can search for "Magnavox MCR140" or "Magnavox MCR 140" (I saw a few sellers selling it on eBay and Amazon).

Since I already a very loud alarm clock (which is louder than this one), I thought it was redundant and a waste of $42 (unless you have some use for the vibrating function, which the Magnavox MCR140 does not have). The Magnavox MCR140 is so far the best alarm clock I ever owned.

Customer Review: problems sleeping through alarms?
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a huge problem with sleeping through alarms. I am a college student with crazy waking hours. I used to have several alarms set to go off at different times that were fairly close because I would get used to their noise and not wake up for them. This alarm is almost impossible to sleep through because it shakes the bed causing a different sensation that is not so easily ignored. With flashing lights, an annoying beep (that you can change the pitch to), and the vibrator good luck rejecting this one! If you are worried about the price, think about this. An alarm clock costs you what opportunity if it doesn't wake you up compared to an expensive alarm that does wake you up so you will get up and do whatever you need to. If someone has this same problem with sleeping through alarms I would strongly recomend this product.
