Alarms were totally ineffective for my 20 yr old son, so someone had to personally wake him. In an effort to make him self reliant we bought him the Sonic Boom. The vibrator alone works great to wake him (and not us)- although the alarm itself would be quite effective too. BUT I took one star off cause the unit should come with a longer cord for the vibrator. For my son its important to have to get up to turn off the unit. A 15 ft. extension cord is available, though. I recommend it as part of your initial purchase. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out you need to use the correct setting for your power supply (there are four (AC120V, 60 HZ, AC220 or 50 HZ) or the clock will not keep correct time.Customer Review: Wakes you up!

I love this clock. I'm a heavy sleeper, and have a history of sleeping through near anything, even fire alarms. This, however, not only wakes me up, but does it with such a jolt I nearly jump out of bed, and that's with the ringer barely on, using the vibrate function under the pillow. I can't see myself growing used to this one and sleeping through it anytime soon.
My only complaint, and this is somewhat minor, is that there's no 24-hour mode for those of us with 60hz AC here in America. I thought it as kinda silly that the display mode selector was incorporated into the AC frequency selector like that. The clock won't keep time if on the wrong frequency, so you really can't use the 24-hour mode.

It is not extremely loud, but still will wake most normal people up.
I have set mine to vibrate only, because I could probably sleep through a tornado siren and a smoke alarm at the same time.
I keep it under my pillows, and sometimes it helps me get up, but when I only get 4-6 hours of sleep it doesn't seem to affect me as well. It also overheats under the pillows, causing the vibration decrease. At one point i thought it was broken, but i let it rest a few hours and it kept working. Hard to find a comfortable place to put it in, but if you can manage to sleep right on top of it then it will definitally wake you up.
Snooze button lasts 5 minutes, easy to turn off too.

the clock has never worked correctly sense i have had it. the first night i had the thing the bed shaker started randomly going off at around 2 a.m an then all of the sudden worked fine for about three weeks till suddenly the clock just completely wont turn on. now don't get me wrong when it works its great but its cheaply made an feels more cheap then most alarm clocks. i may be just be the unlucky person who got the crummy screw up from the manufacture but by the way the clock seems so cheaply made i could believe that i am not the only person that has had problems like this, if u get it for $20 do it, it will wake you up for maybe a month but don't waste $40 like me on this thing.Customer Review: Wake the Dead!

My wife and I love it! We purchased the product despite reading a review that it wasn't loud enough. That's certainly not the case; it will wake the dead. When we first tested it, family members came running from different parts of the house to see what the emergency was. It does have both a volume and tone control so that you can make it only as loud as needed. We mainly use the vibrating puck, which is also very powerful. Ever have someone put you in a head lock when you were growing up and use their knuckles to give you a noogie? That's the vibrating puck under your pillow. No way to sleep through that and it doesn't disturb your mate. This is a great product.
