I didn't really get much vibrations from having it under a mattress, much more for under the pillow. I chose to have it vibrate only because the sound it makes is obnoxious, which will wake you up but I end up really upset and grouchy if I wake up to something that sounds worse than a fire alarm. After using this I then realize there are much nicer ones that would work better with my decor. This one really looks like an alarm or I'm not sure what. I searched Amazon and found other ones that were more neutral looking. It's easy to use and I have a hard time waking up. However, I wake up and shut this thing off and go back to sleep - that's another problem ;)Customer Review: its OKAY

the package arrived in a very short amount of time. That was a plus. Its does come thru as a VERY loud *and annoying!* alarm, plus the vibrator part really is effective. My problem is that the power cord where it comnects to the clock appears ill-fitting/ every day i need to reset the clock, and thus,the alarm because the wire comes out whenever you pick up the clock.(this is how my son easily turns it off in the morning, then goes back to sleep!) Its not as easy to set the clock/alarm because of little tiny buttons. HOwever, the SNOOZE button is very large (go figure) It does not have multiple alarm function, that would be cool. I bought this for a 14 y/o who simply does not hear or wake up to beeping alarms. I liked the mixture of features and the ability to adjust the volume and tone of the audible alarm, but the shaking/vibrating feature was most important. In practice, the vibration was effective as a wake up strategy. He could still lie in bed while letting it run, but at least he had an opportunity to become conscious.
Unfortunately, the vibration feature stopped working within a few weeks. I need to get on the phone and check on replacing the attachment, but I'm not particularly hopeful about a lasting fix (having read multiple reviews with similar problems).

I have a teenage son who could sleep through any normal alarm clock. I got tired of having to wake him up everyday for school, not to mention he needs to learn how on his own so when he does ever move out he can make it to work on time. I bought this clock and it works great! I love the "bumper." It vibrates the whole bed when you put it between the mattress and box spring. I recently did what another person suggested though and put the clock on the other side of the room and the bumper is in a drawer. My son got too used to the snooze button, now he has to get out of bed to turn it off. I would recommend this clock to anyone who is a hard sleeper.Customer Review: Sonic Alarm A DUD

For the first week I loved this product. Today I hate it. The vibrator won't shut off. I unplugged the whole unit and when I went to plug it back in it started vibrating again. Kinda defeats the purpose of having it running all the time doesn't it. The quality was cheap plastic from the get go but I didn't mind that as long as it worked. Now the one part I needed the most doesn't work. I have only had this product for a week. This is a damn shame. Next time make a sturdy product that is built to last. At 30 bucks plus I am not happy especially since I sent one to my son too. So I am out 60 bucks. Thanks for nothing!
