Customer Reviews of Standers EZ Adjust Bed Rail

Customer Review: we bought two, one on each side of bed
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great buy! My Mother in law suffers Parkinson disease; she fell from bed a month ago; she is afraid of falling again. After comparing sevreal similar products in the market, we decided on this one offered by Standers. We bought two, one for each side of a twin bed. We are very pleased with the purchase. Amazon has the best price on internet. It arrives probably 1-2 days ahead of schedule (free shipping). Installation is not hard -- but requires some thinking because the instruction is poorly written. When caregiver makes bed for Mom, the railing can be pivot down conveniently. When Mom goes to bed, we pivot the railings up, and pull it to full length for best protection. Whenever Mom wants to get off from bed by herself, the railing is stable and strong enough to be used as grab bars. The plastic bag attached to the railing is a nice touch too; Mom puts her watch, glasses, and pill box in it.

Standers makes good products with good design. After we bought this product, we quickly decided to purchase another item (Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar) from Standers.

Customer Review: Standers EZ Adjust Bed Rail
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great rail for in-home elder care if you don't have or need a hospital bed. The product description does not indicate the minimum height of the box spring, in order for the rail to clear the floor when folded down. Our low-profile box spring is 13" off the floor, which is not high enough to be able to fold it down completely. Luckily, we were able to use it without that function, by moving the rail as close as possible to the head of the bed. You should have at least 14" to the top of the box spring to use that function. Other than that, the retractability of the rail is just what we needed, to allow our elder to get in and out of bed. I would rate this 5 stars if the rail had been a bit lower in height. Not everyone has super thick box springs and mattresses. Of course, bed risers would solve this if you didn't want the rollers on the bed frame to function. We just didn't want a higher bed, hence the lower box spring.

Customer Review: It's a real lifesaver!
Summary: 5 Stars

After my mom fell off of her bed a couple of times, I decided that I needed to purchase a bed rail for her (whether she wanted one or not). And, since she had a king size bed, I also needed a rail that could cover enough of the bed, so that she wouldn't slip past the railing (or that the rail wouldn't easily slide away from the bed). Thankfully, this is the bed rail that I purchased on the first try. While even at it's shortest setting the rail is wide enough to cover quite a bit of the bed, I can still extend it if I need to. Plus, the bars that slide between the mattress were quite stable even without the use of the strap--the king size mattress was too heavy for me to maneuver. (Don't worry, I tested the rail before I allowed my mom anywhere near it, if it can sustain my pulling, it will definitely not budge when she uses it). This item was easy for me to assemble, and worked like a charm. Need I say more?

Customer Review: Just what we needed
Summary: 4 Stars

This bed rail is just what we needed. Very well made and not all "hospital" looking like the chrome ones we've seen. The only issues we had are the noise when extending the rails and the fit to a lower bed/mattress.

Telescoping the tubes out to extend the rail is noisy in a scaping, screeching way. If the person in bed is just falling asleep this could be troublesome. We plan to investigate some sort of lubrication, possibly contacting the manufacurer.

The bed we put it on has a fairly low box spring, so the rail doesn't fold all the way down. It touches the floor just short of vertical. Also, because the mattress is thin, the top of the assembly when folded down is more likely to get in the way geting in & out of bed. We plan to buy a new bed soon, so this is not really much of an issue and certainly not a problem with the design of the product.

Customer Review: Could have been built better
Summary: 2 Stars

Its hard to see exactly what you are getting on the internet when it comes to objects not commonly used everyday. This is no exception. I thought this product was going to be sturdier. The thing that goes around the mattress is actually a cord (a giant rubber band). So the bar even when properly assembled can be wobbly if enough weight is applied to it. I pray that it can hold my father especially if he pulls on it for support. If this cord was a flat steel bar that reached across the mattress and bent down with a hook at the end to grip the bottom of the bed frame, just the sheer weight of the mattress and the grip on the bed frame as a counterbalance would have made this barrier 10X sturdier. I bought this product because I am not sure what else is out there. This certainly isn't the best thing in the world. Just a compromise.
