Customer Reviews of Stevita Supreme - 50pkts - 1.8 oz / PacketCustomer Review: The love/hate of stevia Summary: 4 Stars
I love this brand because it's straight up stevia with some xylitol. I went to trader joe's to look for stevia and their stevia has a bunch of stuff in it that I feel disregards the whole point of switching to stevia. I have been on a raw food detox and following anti-candida guidelines and both are adamant about no sugar of any kind. I bought this to substitute and it's been good so far. It has a sort of bitter aftertaste similar to more common "fake" sugars you find in cafes and such. It takes a bit to get used to, but for some recipes it adds the perfect touch. I made some raw key lime pie and the stevia was probably more perfect than if I were to choose a refined sugar.
I also recommend Yacon Syrup. It can replace molasses and syrup for any recipe. It has a molasses taste but a little sweeter and more bearable. I tend to mix Yacon with the stevia to get a good sweet and less bitter aftertaste. Yacon is a little pricey, but I think it's worth it for the tremendously low glycemic index as well as being a prebiotic.
Customer Review: 95% xylitol, 5% stevia Summary: 4 Stars
I have had good results with stevia packets in the past. They are great for sweetening drinks such as hot chocolate or lemonade and I've use them to boost sweetness in muffin recipes, cakes etc. to good effect.
Just got this box of Stevita Supreme and I like the taste just fine, don't know why some people think it's bitter. Maybe a genetic difference in the taste buds? It does have a cloying aftertaste but because this is basically just sweet, what's the big deal?
The big deal for me is finding out from the box that per one gram packet, 45 mg is stevia and the only other ingredient is xylitol. If my math is correct that makes 45 mg stevia and 955 mg xylitol. Fifty grams in the box times .995 = 47.75 g xylitol which you're buying for about three bucks. Xylitol is good for you and all that, but price-wise here you're paying three dollars for about a tenth of a pound of xylitol (plus a little stevia) whereas you can buy a whole pound of plain xylitol for around nine dollars.
Customer Review: Inedible Summary: 1 Stars
I really wanted to like this product. I've been an equal and splenda user for years but have always been dubious of their safety. I know that just because it's natural doesn't guarantee safety but I do know that stevia has been around a long time w/o significant known side effects. That said, I've been trying multiple stevia products to find best taste. I received product quickly and at reasonable price. Problem is it's so bitter that it's inedible. Tried it on strawberry. Horrible! Thought maybe if in drink. Better but only graduated to terrible. Product itself is clumpy and doesn't dissolve well. Truvia was so superior. I do know that truvia has erythritol and this may be key difference. I didn't think I liked truvia until I tried this product and now it tastes like the nectar of the Gods. Seems like good company but product needs much work. I'm not saying that truvia is completely safe (doing research now). I'm just telling you that this product is not even worth trying if you can't eat it.
Customer Review: VERY bitter and chunky Summary: 1 Stars
I received my sugar in the mail today, the box was crushed as it was sent in regular vanilla envelope. I opened the box and when I went to test out the taste, I put a little bit in my hand and put it in my mouth. I then had to find something else to eat to wash my mouth out as once the sugar left the area on my tongue and goes to other parts of your mouth, it tastes very bitter.
I also opened a few packages to check on why the first one was chunky and it seems that all of the little packages have chunky pieces, as they do not look like other sweeteners (not fine)
From what I have tasted and seen so far I could not recommend this at all. I got it when it was only $1.99 on a sale and now I know why it was...
Just my 2 cents.
Customer Review: Tastes like bad chewing gum. Summary: 1 Stars
This was my first experience with Stevia and probably my last. Not knowing how much to use, I started slow and added little by little, not wanting to overpower the flavor. Anyway, I couldn't taste it in a bowl of oatmeal until I emptied two packets into the bowl, and even then it tasted nothing like sugar, rather it tasted like a stick of bad chewing gum that leaves you with a headache and your mouth feeling sticky and cool.
The aftertaste is terrible, worse than most artificial sweeteners, and I was able to detect the aftertaste with about 1/4 of a packet in the oatmeal, long before the actual flavor of the product.
Maybe there are better Stevia products out there, I don't know, but I'm not sure I want to try.
