Customer Reviews of Stop Thumb Sucking with Thumb Guard Kit (Size Medium/Ages 5-6)

Customer Review: Excellent investment for any thumb sucker!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter has been sucking her thumb since she was 3 months old and we've beenhaving so much trouble getting her to quit. We invested in this thumb guard because we had no other options and were at our wits end with it, she was sucking her thumb all day long and she's almost 6. We got this and kept it on her during spring break and she' stopped sucking her thumb during the day! In just a week! She still wears it at night, and we've had to purchase additonal bands, but this product is sooooo worth the investment! I recommend it to anyone who has a child who sucks their thumb... just keep in mind that your child will fight it at first, ours fought tooth and nail and kept coming up with excuses trying to get us to take it off of her (it hurts, it's too tight, it burns, it feels weird, I don't like it, I'm going to scream until you take it off of me, etc.) you just have to stick with it and not give in, they will get used to it, and they'll give in if you don't!

Customer Review: Great product
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased the thumbguard for our four year old daughter. I was amazed at how willing she was to wear the thumbguard not only at night, but throughout the day at school. She thought it was "cool" especially with the colored bracelets. We discussed the need to stop sucking her thumb before purchasing the thumbguard and she was ready to stop but needed help. The thumbguard had immediate results - no thumbsucking day or night. She has been wearing it for about five weeks now. She now only wears it at bedtime, but I'm confident we can discontinue its use very soon. She doesn't wear it at naptime any longer which is quite an accomplishment. I found it interesting that she didn't try to suck her other thumb as we only used the thumbguard on one hand. Although the product comes with two guards if that became a problem. I highly recommend this product. It was a little hard to swallow the cost, but turned out to be well worth it.

Customer Review: Easily Removed - Only works if child wants to stop
Summary: 3 Stars

This product works great as reinforcement when your child WANTS to quit, and when they can be convinced (bribed) to leave it on. Because of the stretchy rubber, there is no way to get it tight enough that they can't pull the strap closures through each other and get them loose enough to get guard off if they really want to. It took my kid less than two minutes to figure this out. However, if you can come up with an incentive - a reward they will get if the guards are still on in the morning, then the Thumbguard can help them not to accidentally suck during the night, and can be a reminder during the day. My child nibbles on hers, though, and the rubber can be bitten and nibbled away to reveal the thumb after a few weeks. If you are forcing this on your child - don't waste your money. If they WANT to quit and agree they need help, this product can be a big reinforcement.

Customer Review: child was ready and this product worked great
Summary: 5 Stars

we have a 6yr old who we just kept letting it go with... the dentist was giving us the doom and gloom and we needed to just get her over it. she was ready to quit and needed this gentle reminder to help her get it done. we only had to have her wear it at night and it worked great. way less than the 4 weeks... infact she was even able to slip it off her wrist but did not because she knew she needed to quit as well... we have a ton of the braclet strips left... i am not sure if we bought too big or too little because she was able to slip it off her wrist, but like i say, she was ready to quit, and wanted to, but just needed this as a reminder. she is happy to be done with her thumb.. i am seeing some hair chewing now... wonder what product we have out there for that???

Customer Review: not much success
Summary: 3 Stars

My daughter began thumb sucking at age 3, during a severe illness and has not been able to kick the habit as of yet. We've tried gloves, painting the thumb with nasty tasting medicine and have heard of the thumb guard's success, so we bought it. My daughter is eager to wear it and has done so for 3 weeks now...but the habit persists and now she is sucking the other thumb...it is very frustrating and I am now being faced with the decision to have to purchase a second thumb guard-which is pricey. I will try this route, as our next option is an orthodontic device, placed in the mouth my our dentist. It would be nice if 2 thumb guards were being offered in a set - as I'm sure I'm not the only one with a child, who is converting the thumb sucking to the other hand.
