This product (the small) did not work for my dedicated 4 year old thumb sucker. I purchased two, one for each hand, as he is an equal opportunity sucker. We put these on tightly everyday. There were times that I thought that we would cut off his circulation to his hand it was so tight. he figured out how to slip his thumb out by stretching out the band during the night. We also spent a lot of time searching for this as he would hide at least one every day. In addition to being able to pull the thing off, he also chewed on it constantly giving it an oh so lovely smell when we would pull it off to clean it and change the band every night. The Thumb Guard worked for my 4 year old daughter. Within a month, this annoying habit was broken. We were desperate; we had tried everything, from the nasty tasting nail polish, timeouts, band-aids and bribes (lol). The cost was a little steep, but at the end it was all worth it.
The thumb guard after a couple of weeks turned yellowish and was smelly but we would just disinfect it and put it back on. At first she had a hard time with it because she was not able to sooth herself. Now we have a 4 year old that is proud of her accomplishment and does not suck her finger while having a meltdown, watching TV or sleeping.

This product is AMAZING! My 6 year old sucked her thumb ALL THE TIME! We tried many other products but all failed except this one. I know it is a bit expensive but it will save us thousands in dental bills. To me it is worth much more than what it costs. I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who's child is a thumb sucker. The sooner the better. Don't delay. The longer you wait the harder it is on the child. Oh, and don't believe those people who tell you "they'll grow out of it" or "just wait till they start school, they'll stop because none of the other kids do it" BOLOGNA! This product is just as good as the more expensive guards you'll see. The key is that your child has to express an interest in quitting. We did daily stickers, weekly awards. I advize that you keep it on as recommened for 3 weeks (mainly at night for my son), even if your child wants to try without it sooner. Yes, the child can wiggle it off, but if he really wants to quit, and you have motivators you can actually make it a thing for the child to be proud of if he doesn't remove it. (Plus you can reuse the band for longer use without reordering.) Definately worth the purchase if you way it against orthodontics later!Customer Review: just say NO

2.5 year old son pulled it off, so i made it tighter, he pulled it off again, so i made it tighter...after 15 mins or so, I went to check on him because I felt it might be too tight and he was standing in his crib looking at me like a sad puppy dog. i took the thing off and though it probably would not have cut off his circulation, it was clearly too tight. this is a process that should not be torture for the child. i'm going to try mavala stop this time around and see how that goes, it's a fraction of the cost and the only pain will be on the taste buds not the blood supply.
