Customer Reviews of Sunbeam Health at Home 756-500 Standard Heating Pad with NEW Arthritic ControllerCustomer Review: Not very good Summary: 3 Stars
Previously, I used the Thermalon microwave heat packs. I liked those but I wanted something that would keep an even temperature for a long length of time and the Thermalon packs cool down after about twenty minutes and then need to be reheated. I never had an electric heating pad before but I assumed that an electric pad would keep a consistent temperature for as long as you needed it. However, this one doesn't. I find that very disappointing, as that was the very reason why I even purchased an electric heating pad to begin with. This pad does heat quickly but then it will get suddenly very hot for a few minutes, so hot that I'll feel like it's almost going to burn my skin, and then it will suddenly cool down very fast and stay that way for several minutes before (the first time it did that I had to check if the heating pad was even still on because it had gotten so cool and it was on the highest heat setting!) heating again very quickly. It cycles like that for the entire time it's switched on. I think I'm going to have to look for a different heating pad. I really don't like the inconsistent temperature. I bought this for therapeutic heat for a health problem and I need something where the heat stays the same temperature and doesn't vary so drastically every few minutes.
Customer Review: Sunbeam 756-5 Heating pad Summary: 5 Stars
The Sunbeam 765-5 heating pad works as it should: turn it on, and it comes on and stays on until you turn it off. Most heating pads sold today automatically shut off after a period of time. None of the manufacturer's literature on the Amazon.com website addressed this key point. But one of the reviewers said the 765-5 did not automatically shut off, so I bought 10 of them. They all work fine.
Previously I had bought 10 Soft Heat HP110 heat pads. They worked fine, but were destroyed over time during domestic problems in the feral cat condominium building in our back yard, where the pads are used to keep the kitties warm during the winter months. Automatic shutoff would render the heat pad useless for this purpose. In fact for just about any purpose. But if you want a heating pad for a paralyzed or unconscious person in a heated facility, and you will not be around to shut off the heat pad, and the patient doesn't really need a heat pad, automatic shut off is the way to go. Besides, when it automatically shuts off it saves electricity!
Customer Review: Can't beat it for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, the cord is quite stiff and kind of fights you, but it lets up after awhile. NOTE: this unit does come with a lead warning ("The power cord on this unit contains lead...") on the cord. So, if you are very lead conscientious or have a total aversion to the stuff you have been notified.
The heat is quick and even. I use it for my feet while I am at my desk, and I have found that in the dead of winter I only use the "low" setting.
The blue chintzy 'cover' is, well, cheap and just one of those perfunctory items manufacturers send with the unit because they were told to do so. Most people are probably going to use a pillow case or be so cool as to make their own. My cat likes it, and fights me for space while it is on. So, if it was a little bigger (or my cat was a lot smaller) I would dig it immensely.
Get it, it is worth the price and does the trick. You just have to be conscious enough to remember to turn it off. Or hook it up to a timer?
Customer Review: Not great for back pain relief Summary: 2 Stars
I know there are a few reviews by people who bought this for their pet and gave it good reviews. But my review is for people that want to use it for back pain relief, and that does not warrant a good review.
The high heat setting is probably good enough, although it could be a tad hotter. The big problem here is that the heat does not stay on. It constantly "pulses" on and off every 5 minutes or so. So you don't get steady heat to your back.
This pad is also a mess after you have used it. The "bag" that it is in is impossible to straighten out after it has been used. I try my best, and get it as flat as possible, but there are still many, many wrinkles in it. Very poor design.
The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is the price. It certainly is a good price. But you do get what you pay for. I would not recommend this for somebody looking for a heating pad for back pain.
Customer Review: used for doggy Summary: 5 Stars
It has no timeout feature so it can go all night to provide my dog with a warm bed. I use it on low under a thick towel so the dog can't scratch at it and on low it's also not too hot for him. If introducing one of these to a pet, it's good to place it only on half the bed and see if the dog prefers to lay on it or avoids it (too hot maybe). Since pads like these can get too hot for an animal, having some kind of extra layer on top helps to protect the dog. Works well for this purpose and since mine is not a chewer I am not worried about him biting the wire. That being said, the wire itself is pretty thick and inflexible and has a sturdy connection into the body of the pad so it can last a while. The LED on the controller is bright and a good attention getter to turn off the pad in the morning.
