Customer Reviews of Sunbeam Health at Home Heating Pad, King Size 14" x 18"

Customer Review: Fantastic in every way!
Summary: 5 Stars

LOVE this heating pad!! It is so hard to find one without the automatic shut-off. This has a 2-hour automatic shut-off as an OPTION only. My previous Sunbeam model (the only other pad with continuous on) had a thin blue removable cover and the actual pad was always crumpled underneath. On this model, the cover is securely attached to the heating element. The entire pad unplugs from the cord so it can be machine washed. This is a very soft, thicker pad that doesn't fold or crumple.

It has SIX heat settings and the hottest setting is VERY hot - too hot to use on bare skin - and I have a very high heat tolerance. (Those reviewers who claim this pad is not hot enough must have a defective one). There are no "hot spots" and the entire pad heats nice and even. The hand control is simple to use, with a large, easy-to-read digital display.

At 14" x 18" it's a nice size, although I wish it was just a tad bigger. The other popular Sunbeam model mentioned earlier measures 12" x 24" If this pad was 14" x 24" it would be PERFECT! Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. If you are trying to decide between the two Sunbeam heating pads that are top sellers here on Amazon, go for this one. For the extra 8 or so bucks, it's 100x better!

Customer Review: Decent heating pad, not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

We have three of these heating pads. We use them to keep our family members warm while eating dinner or snuggling on the sofa during winter months without having to crank up the heat (and heating bill.)

Pros:
* The pad itself is soft, flexible, comfortable.
* The heating element does not shift around inside the cover like some other heating pads we've purchased.
* Gets plenty warm.
* Has an optional timer setting.
* Is apparently okay for wet heat and can be unplugged and thrown in the washing machine, although we haven't tried either of those options (yet).

Cons:
* Buttons don't work perfectly on one of the three pads: have to be pushed just the right way. (We're too lazy to bother trying to return it for replacement, so no comments about customer service to post.)
* The only timer shut-off setting is for 2 hours. Other pads we've purchased (the kind that annoyingly shift around inside their covers) have options for 30-60-90-120 minutes until shut-off, which is better if you might fall asleep using it.

Note: the cold pack that comes with it is the single use kind, not a reuseable one. FYI.

Customer Review: I expected better
Summary: 3 Stars

I paid a little more to get this pad because it stated " Extra soft, integrated pad conforms to body". The FIRST thing I noticed taking it out of the box was the lack of padding. You can feel the wiring in this unit more than any other I have owned. The other features like temperature control are about the same as what you'd get with any other pad only with a fancier controller. So it is just as stiff ,maybe a little stiffer, less padding, comparable heat control, and size to my last heating pad but for a few dollars more. I should have just gotten the large one they has at Target for less, same company. Oh, this does have straps on it so I figure it will be good for the car (with a converter) since I have chronic pain I need something to go with me and this can hook on the seat. I'll try and find a bigger one with padding for home use. Still depend on the cherry seed neck pillow for my neck pain though since it conforms to my neck.

Customer Review: The perfect heating pad!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic product! I have chronic migraines and neck pain and I cannot describe how invaluable this heating pad has been! I got one and used it nearly every day for almost two and a half years before it died. I have ordered another one and am using it now. The control allows you to set the heat level from 1 to 5/H and it will auto shut off after two hours but you can set it to shut off after a longer period or to stay on indefinitely if desired. It's flexible quality makes it ideal for a number of injuries (back, neck, knees, ankles, shoulder, etc). I really like the pad itself because the surface is a quilted texture which the heat comes from directly not two pieces - a pad and a the heavy outer coating you see with a number of heating pads. I would highly recommend this heating pad to anyone in the market - the price is reasonable and it's features make it worth it.

Customer Review: Good...but bulky control and stiff cable
Summary: 3 Stars

I'd give this product 3 1/2 stars if half stars were possible. It seems well-constructed and -- most of all -- delivers plenty of heat. I had almost been too discouraged to try another heating pad, believing that the lawyers and assorted consumer nannies no longer allowed heating pads to heat. Not true with this one.

OTOH, I consider the bulky control and the stiff cable to be substantial drawbacks to this product. The control is the size of a largish TV remote, the kind that fills a man's hand. Maybe this is necessary to accommodate the "computer control." (What'd you think...they had a little three-position switch?) Even worse than the bulk of the control is the stiffness of the cable from the control to the pad. This is not a subtle point...we are talking seriously stiff here. The pad is awkward to maneuver with all of this hardware hanging off of it.
