I was very excited about this heating pad. When it arrived, I was impressed with the controls and the heating capability of the pad. Unfortunately, within 25 days, the control no longer functioned. I was so disappointed. I have never had to return anything to Amazon before; however, I was very impressed with their tremendous customer service. The agent sent me a prepaid return label via email to mail the defective pad back. And, I received my replacement heating pad within three days from my call. Hopefully, this second pad will perform as admirably as the first...hope it lasts longer than 25 days though. Probably just got a bad one the first time...it happens. As I was having pain in the chest wall, my docter recommended me to apply heating pad. I looked for a good heating pad at a cheaper cost. For $20, I couldn't find a great product than this (after $10 discount). This one heats up very fast and it has 5 levels of heat setting. It also has coooool 'auto-off' feature. At the highest setting, when u touch the pad it won't be much hot and you will feel just warm. But when u keep it at a particular position for more than 2-3 minutes, you will see the real heat penetrating into your skin. It is a good product and you will never be disappointed.
I think, older people (>60) may need much more heat from the pad to get rid of their severe pain.

I bought this heating pad to replace an old one we had, probably from the 1970's that seemed like it was shorting out. I was worried about finding a replacement since I have seen so many bad reviews for heating pads in general. This one is a nice size, bigger than what we had before. It also has a nice long cord so it is easy to move around without getting tangled up. I use it on the high setting and it gets good and hot. It has options to stay on continuously or you can set it to turn off automatically. It says you can put the pad in the washing machine but I have not tried that yet. I sent this heating pad to my 75 year old sister in upper Michigan. I never saw the pad. I sent it direct. When I called her to check on it, she tearfully told me that it came with a warning that it had lead in the power cord, and that she should wash her hands if she touched it. A heating pad that you cannot touch? A Sunbeam heating pad? She was in tears. But I am outraged that this Chinese trash is now being sold under names like Sunbeam. Profit over people.
She later sent me the instructions with the warning, so I saw it with my own eyes. Too bad previously reputable Sunbeam doesn't have higher standards. Too bad for us all.

I have had several of these Sunbeam soft heating pads. I have already used this new one and the high setting is pretty hot, thus I am using the 3 to 4 heat setting. I like the new fancy control too.
I like that I can put it on 2 hour setting or on continuous setting too.
I am hopeful that they have the "bugs" worked out of the control system as it is usually what goes bad...I am going to hold on to my receipts and packaging just in case this one goes bad too. I have tried other brands of this same type heating pad and the control on them goes bad too. Probably all made by the same company.
