Customer Reviews of Sunbeam Health at Home Standard Moist/Dry Heating PadCustomer Review: Pretty good, but no moist heat Summary: 4 Stars
This is a pretty good heating pad for the money. It heats up fairly quickly and has a very easy to use controller (low-medium-high) that is workable even if you have poor hand strength. The pad is stiff when cold, but becomes far more malleable when hot so you can easily wrap it around a knee, elbow, etc. Measures about 12 inches by 15 inches.
It is not, however, the model listed on the product page. The product page lists model 731-500, which offers moist heat. I received model 756-5, which does not have moist heat.
The only difference is that the moist heat model has a pad that you can dampen with water and insert inside the cover. I don't care for moist heat, so I didn't bother returning the pad to Amazon. If, however, moist heat is something you want, you may want to order a different model or get this from someplace other than Amazon. It seems from the other reviews that sometimes Amazon ships the moist heat model; other times they ship the model I received.
Customer Review: Sunbeam Health at Home Heating Pad a total blessing for animals!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I searched far and wide to find a heating pad without the automatic shutoff! Finally I found this one, thanks to all the reviews everyone wrote about it! "My parrot loves it; my puppies love it; my hedgehog loves it; my cats love it!" I got three of these for my elder kitties, and we all love it! It's nice and warm on low or medium, and we haven't needed to use the high setting. I understand that the high setting will cool itself down automatically and then heat up again automatically, so as a safety feature, this is the one that makes sense! I spoke to Sunbeam to be sure this was perfect (no auto shutoff) for my furry ones, and this woman told me they hadn't tested it on animals. Haha! I told her not to worry, that I had, and if she read all the pampered animals enjoying it in the Amazon review section of their product, she would see how many people appreciate this pad for animals. Thumbs and paws way up on this one!
Customer Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I have been using this product for a variety of things and it has been great. When you turn it on, it doesn't take long to heat up which is great. At its highest temperature, the heat setting is just right, hot enough to bring relief without becoming too hot or uncomfortable. The only thing we wish was different is that once it has been on High for a while, it begins to cool down and does not become hot again until its cooled down first. This is a little frustrating if you wanted it to be hot for longer. We have tried turning it off and unplugging it at that stage, waiting a minute or two and then plugging it in again and having it on High but this doesn't seem to make it any faster. It still doesn't reach High again until its cooled down first. Other than that, its wonderful and has been a huge help for sore backs, necks, and other ailments. :-)
Customer Review: new one every year Summary: 2 Stars
I've owned several of these, and they always need to be replaced after about a year. Generally I retire them when the heating element goes out of control and starts overheating to the point of burning. The slow decline takes several months. First one of the 3 heat levels will stop working, and I will only be able to operate it on the other two levels, and finally I'll only be able to operate it on the last (highest and hottest) level. Then I will notice it getting WAY too hot for comfort. The pad becomes a burned color. A minor but consistent irritant also is that the cover is very skimpy, needlessly so, and his held on by a very feeble snap. The cover immediately falls off every time I use it. I recommend this product for a flame-resistant immobile person.
Customer Review: The patient calls it a lifesaver Summary: 5 Stars
My wife is struggling with a bit of painful tendonitis in her elbow. Her doctor recommended wrapping it in hot wet towel... which works, but it's hard to relax when you're constantly getting up to refresh the towel's heat and so on. So I thought this heating pad would be worth a try, and it was. There's a thin sponge-like layer that you remove and dampen under the tap and reinsert. The sponge doesn't look like much but it does the job. It stays wet for quite a while, so you can have the heat on for hours while you relax which is great. Anyway the wife has called it a "lifesaver" three days in a row now, it really helps sooth pain in the right conditions.
