Customer Reviews of Swiffer SweeperVac Rechargeable Cordless Vacuum Starter Kit (Packaging May Vary)

Customer Review: I would give it zero stars if I could - Useless piece of junk-BUYER BEWARE !
Summary: 1 Stars

The concept of the Swiffer Sweeper Vac is excellent, but I found this vac to be very disappointing. I followed the directions to a T and still having serious battery issues. The Vac does not hold a charge and runs out of power way too soon. Even when it held a charge longer, it never really had much suction and is only good for picking up lightweight dust, pet hair, small particles. It worked better the first month or so I had it but swiftly declined (pun intended!) Why make this item cordless to begin with? I would love it if it simply had a long cord which I could just plug in to use. Must have been designed by some high-paid CEO who has a maid and never has to use one and has some false notion that cordless is better than plug in. If you are fortunate to have one which actually works correctly, a word of caution, be careful because the hard plastic hood which is the part that has the suction, will scratch your hardwood floor. I wish I had paid attention to all the bad reviews about this item but I was desperate to get something for a quick every day clean for our hardwood floor in the high traffic area of our kitchen/dining room. I dismissed the bad reviews about battery charge issues and attributed them to folks who did not follow the directions about use and recharging.........boy was I I will be calling the number on the label on the machine next week to see if something can be done to fix this worthless hunk of junk and, if not, obtain a if I cannot obtain satisfaction, at least I was able to vent about this inferior quality I will try to report back as to what

A FEW DAYS
Well, I called the number on the base of my Swiffer Vac and spoke to a very nice Representative of P&G. She took some info from me which was found on my Swiffer Vac and lo and behold, they are going to send me a coupon for a FREE REPLACEMENT Swiffer Vac! She assured me my new replacement will work as promised. Apparently, there was some problem with some of these units and they have fixed the problem and you can get the unit replaced for free by calling the number on the base of your Swiffer Vac. Should get my coupon in a week or two and to use it anyplace except Home Depot or Lowes as they will not accept the coupon. HINT: She also advised me to look for unit which is a different, lighter green color than the DUD that I have now. There are still some of the old model duds out if you are buying one for the first time, buy one of the lighter lime-green colored ones, not the darker green one and you should not experience any problems. I am SO GLAD I called and did not just throw the old hunk of junk you P&G.......I thought I could count on you did come through.......I guess I can forgive the torture of the past year or so of using the old would have been nicer though, if they had announced a recall or something instead of making us all figure out what to guess they saved themselves a ton of money by not saying anything and just let folks figure it out for themselves. I wonder how many folks just gave up and threw the darn thing out in total frustration?

Customer Review: Excellent When Used AS INTENDED
Summary: 5 Stars

I have five cats. This means a lot of cat litter, cat food, and cat hair on the vinyl floor in my utility room. The Swiffer Sweeper Vac is perfect for quickly and easily picking up all of the above.

It is light-weight, and does not scratch the floors. No dust pan and brush needed. The flexible sweeping head swivels easily to reach into corners and under cabinets with no problem.

Important to keep in mind:

In the user manual that comes with the product, it states you MUST charge the battery for a full 24 hours before first use.

It states the vac will run for about 10 - 12 minutes on one charge, then need to be charged for 16 hours.

It states the Sweeper&Vac operates best if used until fully discharged before charging again.

It is intended for dry pick up only, not liquids.

The dirt container is small. I just checked, and one 8-oz measuring cup of dry cat litter more than fills it. I'd say 4 - 6 oz is more like it.

It does NOT work well on carpet.

The manual suggests storing the Sweeper Vac near an outlet where it is convenient to charge every time.

If you will not be happy with these limitations, you will not be happy with this product!

The floor in my utility room is small, about 6' X 10'.

If you have a very large house, or many rooms with hardwood, tile, or vinyl floors, you may not be happy with the Sweeper Vac, as many other reviews have stated. It simply isn't intended to run for long periods of time on one charge. I'd suggest getting some other floor cleaning appliance.

If you want something for quick dry-pick-up, with no stooping or bending to use dust pan and brush, the Swiffer Sweeper Vac may be just the thing.

The dirt container does pull off very easily to empty, and snaps easily back into place. The filter is very easy to remove and snap back into place.

Some other user reviews have stated that the Sweeper Vac does not pick up solid pieces of cat food, only crumbs. I do NOT understand this. Mine picks up both whole pieces of dry cat food AND crumbs. It picks up lint, cat litter and dust. It gets all the cat hair and "dust bunnies" with no problem. That's all I wanted or expected it to do, and it does all of those things quickly and easily.

Replacement filters are available at Target, and at several sites online. Two cloths are included in the Starter Kit. The Swiffer cloths are available at grocery stores, discount stores, and online. Target and Walmart both carry them.

I think if used as intended this is an excellent floor cleaner. I'm very happy with mine.

Customer Review: Barely better than just a Swiffer broom
Summary: 1 Stars

This thing seriously impressed me (at first) - though I keep my hardwood floors pretty clean so I didn't have much to pick up upon first use. Weeks later after cooking/entertaining I had hoped to make getting crumbs and such off of the floor a snap. Now I'm finding that this product isn't much better than just having a plain old Swiffer to push the dirt and simply get up with a dust pan - you'd actually expend less energy doing that. This is because quite frequently you have to double or even triple back over a spot you've already gone over to get what was left behind. It seems that the units only sucking power is right in the center of the plastic piece on the front of the vac. Even though it expands outwards horizontally this appears to be nothing more than making you feel as if it has a wider range than it really does. I understand the intended physics of it - the center is where the suction is. When the entire plastic piece comes in contact with the floor the vacuum force is applied the entire length of the plastic. Great theory but in the real world when you're using it the plastic vacuum head does not come in complete contact with the floor - and as one reviewer pointed out already it tends to scratch your hardwood floors a bit because there's no felt or rubber barrier between the hard plastic and your floor. If they did fix the vacuum head so it could stay in contact with the floor at all times during vacuuming they'd have to put a scratch protection barrier on it.

I'm seriously disappointed in this product. Besides the inferior vacuum head design there's the weak motor & battery combination. First off as a person who's studied electronics at even the most basic component level I'm well aware that just about anything at the consumer level that's battery powered & cordless is always going to be weaker than a corded model. Likewise - corded appliances are weaker than gas powered appliances. It's a matter of physics & forces. That's fine; but I'd rather have a heavier unit in my hand because of a bigger motor & battery to get more sucking power.

The cost of the unit doesn't make this thing viable when you consider simply sweeping dirt into a pile with a regular swiffer and bending over 1 or 2 times to sweep up the pile will cause you to expend LESS overall energy than going over the same area 3-5 times just to get a couple extra crumbs that were missed with the Swiffer Vac.

Good idea but poorly engineered & implemented. If I can find my receipt this piece of junk is going back to the store I bought it from.

Customer Review: Not impressed for it's price!!!!
Summary: 3 Stars

Like a previous reviewer, I would like to have given it a half point but a 2.5 instead. We purchased this item because we have a lot of tiling and hardwood flooring in our home. Despite the 12-18 hour initial charge, the product only held it's charge for about 12 minutes. This product didn't do completely everything as promised, a few pieces of Cheerio's, pieces of cat kibble, cat hair, crumbs from chicken nugget breading are just a few of the items it wasn't capable of picking up, despite it's long charge. Another problem I found a tad annoying, the side vent where the vacuum pushes out the excess air, causes any dust/hair/crumb of any kind to do floor dancing. Not really fun chasing after dirt....even with the Swiffer dust pad on, there was still hair and dust left on the floors. After vacuuming, only the dining room into the kitchen (remember the battery died), I took a blacklight to see just how much was left on the floor, there was still a good bit of dust, hair and crumbs. :( So it's hard to say, it does vacuum up better than a broom and dust pan absolutely! But I don't think if you have a family and you're trying to quickly get some cleaning done does it work great. Perhaps if you have a small area of tiled area of hard flooring that needs to be cleaned. It certainly can't be used as a vacuum, needs a better battery or cord. We have a Bissell Power Force that we paid $30 at Walmart, just wish it worked on hard flooring. Thinking of getting this instead:

[...]

at least it sanitizes, while vacuuming and there's no chemicals, pretty price but I think it will pay for itself especially after I stop buying floor cleaner! Good luck hope it works better for you! I am taking mine back this evening. But I love the pivoting head, fabulous in the dining area, under and around the table and chairs! It's quiet enough that it didn't wake up my young kids, even the garage door does with their sound machines. It's very light weight and despite it's recommendation for not allowing children to play with it, my three year old really enjoyed being able to vacuum without me having to push it around for him! But for $40 I expect a lot for for my buck. I may not be able to vacuum well with my Bissell on hard flooring, but I have several attachments allowing me to do so, it's energy efficient, it has a cord, but it's battery doesn't die, nor does it require special disposable either. I must of had very high expectations, sorry. LOL.

Customer Review: I write this in the first flush of new love. But still...
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, I love this gadget. Now understand, I am gadget girl so I'm predisposed to like stuff like this. But I don't have a lot of patience for ones that don't work properly. Swiffer really has come through with this number. It's a lightweight unit that vacuums as it dusts the floors, picking up surprisingly large bits of fribble while it cleans up dust a normal vacuum won't. Believe me on this. I have a Dyson which is a great vacuum, but it simply doesn't suck up the dust, which means that in order to clean my kitchen or bathroom floor, I had to sweep or vacuum up anything bigger than a very small sock bug (The schmuts of lint that come off of socks and scare you silly in dim light because they look like the grandmother of all bugs.) Then I had to dust the floor, and only then could I wash it without creating dust snakes out of water and, well, dust. And they're just nasty.

So along comes the Swiffer sweeper-vac and it cuts one whole step out of my cleaning routine. That alone qualifies the inventor for sainthood in my book. It's easy to assemble, uses disposable sweeper cloths just like the Swiffer sweeper (Or you can use your own rags. Many Swiffer products are easily hackable.) and has surprisingly powerful suction for something thats 1) cordless and 2) this small.

And while I'm on the subject of small, let me say that this little number gets places that nothing else has been able to reach. I can actually vacuum/sweep under things I used to have to move. It's low enough at the sides to slide deeply under both stove and refrigerator, which means that all those little bits of things you drop while you're cooking but don't feel like digging out because, ew, what else is under those appliances? They get sucked up and thrown away.

The dust cup is smallish, so you're going to have to empty it with each use, and the filter will need changing on a regular basis -- Swiffer says six months, but your mileage may vary. And the rechargeable battery is a NiCad which means that if you dispose of your sweeper, you need to recycle the battery. But honestly? I don't see you having to do that for a very long time.

Yeah, I'm liking Swiffer products a really, really lot. They do a terrific job, are affordably priced, and make my life easier. They're also easy enough to hack if you want to change anything. For around $30, you can't go wrong, in my opinion.
