Customer Reviews of Swiffer WetJet Spray, Mop Floor Cleaner Starter Kit (Packaging May Vary)

Customer Review: It's O.K.
Summary: 3 Stars

I wanted the Wet Jet for my kitchen floor which is white tile (didn't pick it and wouldn't recommend it) which shows dirt two minutes after mopping. I can only get it together to REALLY mop my kitchen about twice a month so I wanted something easy I could whip out and put away fast. I mopped just now for the first time and it did a decent job. Not as good as getting down on your hands and knees, but I was satisfied with the results. Having said that, there are a lot of small problems with the Wet Jet. My kitchen is not very big and only took between 3-4 minutes to mop, however in that time span the battery cover fell off twice. The scrubby strip on the side is hard to use (you have to twist the head and that's when the cover pops off) and is virtually useless. If you have something stuck on you will have to scrape it with your fingernail or whatever. I wish I had listened to other reviewers who complained of the price of the replacement pads. The Wet Jet comes with only two pads which I will reuse until they fall apart because a two-pack box of 24 pads on Amazon is 23.99. You get a lot of pads for the price but I have a hard time justifying the cost. Also, you have to use the cleaning solution to moisten the pad in order to mop the floor and it seems to use a lot. The spray, which attaches to the mop, is pretty cheap (3.99 for a bottle) and smells pretty good. My problem is that the good smell is still permeating my house 30 minutes later and burning the back of my throat as I write this. So in terms of being "green" this product gets no stars from me. Doesn't matter how good it works if I can't stand to breath it. If you are at all sensitive to chemicals or strong synthetic smells I recommend mopping, opening all the windows and leaving for a few hours. I may dump out the cleaning and refill the bottle with the scent-free cleaning solution I normally use. In short, it was quick and easy, and if I could get a scent-free solution I would give it 4 stars.

Customer Review: Nice for small area cleaning
Summary: 4 Stars

The Wet Jet is a nice idea which could be improved upon, but currently, we must take it as it is. And that's not all bad.

The good points are it's initial low cost, ease of use, and effectiveness.

First, and foremost, it cleans well. The solution/pads do a good job of picking up dirt, at least as well as a clean sponge mop (and do we all keep them as clean as we should?), but I would rate it a bit better.

Second, it's easy to do. There's no mixing solutions, dragging around a bucket, etc. Cleanup is simply throwing away the pad. The unit is lightweight, and easy to use in tight areas (like around toilets). Time wise, it cuts mine in half.

Third, it's not too expensive at initial cost, nor, do I feel, in after costs. My requirements are to clean two modest sized bathroom floors and a small kitchen floor. With reasonable use of the solution, I figure my cost for replacement pads and solution at about 75 cents each time I clean these areas together. Keep in mind that the solution that comes with the kit only has about half what the replacement bottles contain, so adjust your cost figures accordingly. I do, however, see how on larger jobs, the cost might add up.

OK, there are some things that I didn't like. The battery door latch broke as I was installing the initial set of batteries. Did I break it or was it weak? I don't know, but I'm pretty good at installing batteries in most things. The flexibility at the neck could be stiffened. I like the range of movement, but if stiffer, I think it would allow you to put down a little more effective downward pressure to clean trouble spots. This weakness makes the scrubbing pad on the end next to worthless.

Yes, there are things to improve, but for my type of cleaning jobs, it definately beats the mop and bucket.

Customer Review: Good when you want a quick once-over, but not for deep cleaning
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm going to start my review by saying that I have owned my Swiffer for years and years and years. I have children and a husband and a cat. I am a little bit of a clean freak, so I clean often. Everyone takes their shoes off at the front door, except for a few visitors. I used to LOVE my Swiffer. I was so sick of the old fashioned way of mopping. I also used to marvel at how the pad reminded me of a sanitary napkin or a diaper, how it seemed to wick away the dirt to the inside of the pad but leave the surface relatively clean until the thing was really full and sopping - to the point where when you pulled the pad off, it was heavy and you could see all the dirt soaked through to the underside.

Well, something has changed. For the past year, I have been extraordinarily unhappy with my Swiffer. It does not get my floor clean, or at least barely. It pushes around the dirt. After one mopping, I look at the pad, and the surface is covered with a layer of dirt/dust, but the inside is clean. From that point forward, all the mopping keeps sliding that dirt on the pad around the floor rather than sucking it into the pad. I finally will pull the pad off because it is so filthy, yet it is light and dry and there is no dirt visible through the underside. So I go through the pads frequently, much quicker than I used to. And yes, I always sweep or use my Shark floor sweeper or even my Dyson prior to the Swiffer to get up all the loose dirt/hair/crumbs etc. What a difference from my old beloved Swiffer experience!! I'm obviously assuming they have changed something about the pads.

I am so disappointed, I really would not recommend buying a Swiffer these days unless you just want it for very quick clean-ups between moppings. I've heard great things about steam cleaners, I'm going to invest in one. Wish me luck!!

Customer Review: The original was better
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought a swiffer wet jet right around the time when they first came out. I was familiar with the original Swiffer sweeper and figured this would be a good investment. Even, then I was disappointed to learn you have to sweep or vacuum first. It seemed to me that the Swiffer should do this as well as function as a mop.

Still, it was quicker and less messy than a mop. I don't like to be on contact with surfaces that seem dirty and the Swiffer Wet Jet provides me with the "barrier" I need to clean yet stay clean myself.

However, when I purchased a new Swiffer Wet Jet after moving, I was quite disappointed. Version 2.0, or whatever it is, requires batteries and they are not included! I'm not sure why this version needs batteries, but it's just another thing to replace. If the original could do without, why not this one?

Also, this one was much more complicated to put together. The battery area requires extra pieces. With the original, it was easy to put it together but I actually had to follow directions with all the new pieces.

The revamped Swiffer Wet Jet tries to look classy but instead looks cheap and plasticy. Indeed, when there are spots I need to scrub, I sometimes wonder if I won't break the shaft of this machine because it bends and feels weak.

As others have mentioned, the pads, solution and sponge all need to be changed fairly frequently. Although it depends how often you use your swiffer, how much dirt you mop up and how large of an area you have to mop, refilling these articles may cost you next to nothing or an arm and a leg.

Overall, the Swiffer Wet Jet is an improvement over traditional mopping systems, but it could be more efficient and if the company continues to utilize such inefficient "upgrades," I see myself parting with the Swiffer Wet Jet.

Customer Review: Great Product- worth a chance!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had a hard time figuring out the best way to clean my tile flooring. I started with a clorox ready mop- what a piece of junk. The spray mechanism kept breakting. I never felt as though the floor was clean- I would end up having to take out a scrubber and do things by hand. So then, fed up with the product, I went to the traditional mop. This has been a great thing for the most part. I feel as though I can really clean and scrub my floors. However, it was such a pain and a lot of work. I still needed something that would allow me to do a quick touch up around the highchair- or doing areas of the house that just needed a little sparkle and shine. I picked up the Swiffer Wet Jet and have been in mop heaven! Here is a quick list:

Pros:
Easy to work with
Heavier duty, heavier than the ready mop which helps with the elbow grease
Nice smelling cleaner
Easy to assemble
Cleaned up dried baby food like a charm!
Swivels around furniture nice
Get's into the corners and along the edges of the cupboards without soaking them
Easy to take with me to all the rooms in the house- I did my kitchen, hallway, and two bathrooms with the same pad, no problem.
I did the white sock test- and it passed!

Cons:
The pump sprayer is kind of noisy, its like a mid pitch whine. You get used to it, but it took me off guard
It was a little more expensive than I would have liked- but worth the few dollars extra than the ready mop. Best to wait until you have a coupon to buy the starter kit.
Haven't figured out how to refill the bottle of solution with my own concoction- so you're stuck with the swiffer brand stuff.
Scrubber pad takes some coordination to use- and it doesn't scrub all that well IMO
