Weight-wise, this scale is the most accurate one I've ever had. For all of the other body composition elements, the readings are all over the place and you have to take several factors into consideration. To use the other functions, you really have to take measurements at the same time every day and take an average - understanding the dynamics of hydration, pms, etc., on the readings that the scale gives you. If you have a curious and scientific mind -- WHY am I getting this reading, etc. -- it can be interesting to see how the scale reacts to what's really going on with your body.Customer Review: Tanita BC554

Weight, body fat and visceral fat, all quite important, appear to be accurate. Some variation of fat and body compositions dependent on hydration, as stated in easy-to- use manual. As I'm 65 years old, some disappointment that metabolic rate reads only up to 50 years, regardless of possible actual rate over 50. Also, bone density only a relative measurement, not much comparison data given. All told, a useful measuring and motivational tool, easy to set up and use for small or even sizable family. Being a computer guy, I love all of the features and measures that the scale gives me. And with multiple people in the family, it is nice to have them all have a profile on the scale.
The scale's body fat calculation matched my doctor's and the kids school scales, which is good.
You need 20/20 vision and a magnifying glass to see the icons and numbers that come out. I wish they would show them in bigger type and slower, to handle the older person.
Overall, I am very happy with the scale and the measurements.

I was intitially happy with the scale, its ease of use and performance. However, after only a month of gentle use, the digital display broke. It has been difficult getting the item repaired and returned to me. I had to pay for shipping and insurance to send the item back. I had the original box,paperwork, shipping receipt and date of purchase, but had misplaced the receipt. Tanita is refusing to repair the scale without it. I guess they have a big problem with people stealing their scales and then sending them back at their own expense for repair.Customer Review: Well Done!

This scale is just what I was looking for. I have had it for a couple months and am very satisfied. Programming was easy, and the info adds that much more detail to help you focus on your health. Other reviews noted frustration over the fact that you cannot pick-up a stick of butter and see the weight change because of the device's calibrators that will reset to the most recent close weight. But you can check subtle variations by using your pre-programmed button on the first try, and then using the "guest" weight button on your second attempt.
