Customer Reviews of Taylor 7506 Glass and Chrome Digital ScaleCustomer Review: JUNK JUNK JUNK Summary: 1 Stars
So I never post product reviews. I couldn't be bothered 99% of the time as I generally expect products to work and will always give companies a second chance.
That being said I gave Taylor three chances in 6 months with this scale and its complete junk. Then I see that Consumer Reports made this their highest rated scale??? Wow...so I am kinda mad.
Here's my story. Bought this scale in the beginning of 2009, mostly for a holiday / new years resolution to lose weight. The scale came outta the box DOA. Okay, that happens. Look for a way to replace it (I didn't buy it on Amazon)...call customer service. Rude and intrusive and wanted me to pay to return it to them. Obnoxious. So I do it.
Next one comes....weights are all over the place. In 5 minute span I gained 17 pounds? Call customer service again. They tell me its most likely my technique with using the scale. So insulting. Bear using that one for about two weeks before getting totally frustrated and demotivated with my weight loss plan. Am I losing weight or not? Who knew with that thing. Put up a huge stink with customer service and got a free new one.
The last one lasted about five months. Weighed accurate for the most part but just died on me one day. Replaced the batteries. Nothing. Finally gave up on these guys and bought another brand.
If you believe that this is a good scale because some people at Taylor sent 5 perfect samples to Consumer Reports then believe it. I don't. Quality control and customer service are sorely lacking.
Customer Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
I chose this bathroom weighing scale based on the reviews of consumer reports and this is one of those occasions when the CR review and public opinion coincides.
This weighing scale is beautiful & elegant to look at and even better in use. The best part which I like is the reading in decimal point. It can serve as a big moral boost for someone trying to gain or loose weight.
Its very accurate and I have cross checked its reading with two other weighing scales, one german scale SOEHNLE and another commercial grade airport scale. Both times, the indications were dead right.
Another great feature is no-tap required to turn it on, just step on it and it will start working. The display can be changed to show in lbs or kgs with an easy to use switch on the underside.
The only thing that the user has to be careful about is NEVER to step on it with bare wet feet. I couldn't find this warning anywhere in the literature. The reason for this warning is that it will get very slippery and may cause a nasty fall with serious injuries. (there is no risk of an electrical shock, whatsoever).
I'd have called it perfect had it somehow offered skid proof coating while maintaining the transparency.
Great product, fully recommended.
Customer Review: The Magic 8 Ball of Lithium Scales Summary: 3 Stars
I, too, purchased this based on Consumer Reports Highest Recommendation. It is sturdy, sleek, with a display large enough to see from 5'10" away. Nonslip pads keep the device from sliding all over the floor. Metal circular guides indicate where to place your feet.
The readings are comical but consistent.
1. 5 pm Tuesday 6/29 -- Stepped on the scale -- 168.6. Wow. I just got weighed at Kaiser and it was 164. Did I gain four pounds in four days? Stepped on the scale twice more and the reading was the same
2. 6:30 pm 6/29 -- stepped on the scale. 166.5. Hey my diet must be working pretty well if I can lose 2 pounds in an hour and a half. Stepped on the scale twice more and the reading was the same.
3. 6:59 am 6/30 -- stepped on the scale. 165.6. Three times same reading.
I now call this the Magic 8 Ball of lithium scales ([...]): Will I lose weight today? Ask the same question and get three different answers: "Definitely", "Maybe" and "Outlook not so good".
Scale -- what is my weight? Get three different answers.
If an accuracy of plus or minus 4 pounds is tolerable to you, this scale would be a good purchase.
Customer Review: Bad Product No Support Summary: 1 Stars
I should not even give this item one star cause it quit working after less than 4 months of use. I purchased this scale back in Nov 2010. I made my purchase because of the ratings it had. HOWEVER the scale I received quit working just LESS THAN 4 months later. I even purchased a NEW Lithium battery and replaced the old one. But it still just flips crazily through the numbers and shows dashed lines until all movement stops on a final dashed line. I went to the TAYLOR website and contacted customer service and ONE WEEK later I am still waiting to get anykind of response from them.
Now most likely I got a BUM scale but you would think that Taylor would want to quickly resolve the issue. That they would stand by their product, after all they are a BIG company. But I guess they are just too big a company to care about one person who got a defective product that they made. Not supporting the customer leaves me more than BURNED on this purchase. It was a very nice looking scale felt well made, BUT if it cannot even give you some kind of weight reading just 4 months of using it then it is not worth considering. Try another brand. Tanita, Weight Watchers, Healthometer or Escali
Customer Review: Consumer Reports seems right so far Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this scale for about two weeks, and so far it seems accurate and highly consistent in its readings. It has none of the wild swings in measurements of my previous scale and it tracks closely to values I get on a larger gym scale. It is easy to use, attractive, and produces readings quickly. For the metric-minded, it also has a switch that changes the display to kilograms. The scale is powered by a widely available lithium battery, and changing it should be fairly easy. My model has a slightly askew retention clip, so it takes a little fussing to seat the battery properly, but once it is inserted, the scale works well. The written instructions are okay, though not totally clear. However, the scale is easy to use, so they are not mission-critical. Note that this scale does not require calibration (taring) before every use, unlike many other scales on the market, which is especially convenient.
Overall, I am very pleased with this product. Based on some previous reviews, there may be problems with quality control in the production of this scale. I haven't encountered any thus far, and the low price makes this an especially attractive product.
