Customer Reviews of The Clapper Plus Sound Activated On/Off Switch, 1 Each

Customer Review: Good, but need more improvement!!!!
Summary: 3 Stars

Great idea, but need little improvement. I brought the clapper plus straight from the Sharper Image store in the mall for 29.99.

Pros:
The great thing about this product is the convenience of clapping can help turn things on or off from a distance. It have two outlet, the first outlet can be turn on/off by clapping twice and the third outlet can be turn on/off by clapping three times. It also comes with a great remote, which can receive signal through walls.

Cons:
My trouble with the clapper plus is the correct timing clapping needed to turn the switch on. In order to turn the switch on by clapping, the claps need to be clear and timing. Exact seconds are needed in order for the switch to turn on/off. I have problems clapping to turn the switch on; making my hand hurt/red (It's difficult at first)

Another problem can be where to use the clapper plus. I once putted the clapper plus in the living room, sometime the noise from the TV turn the product on and sometime the voices from talking can also turn it on. My only place to put it is in my bedroom where it quiet. (It work great in quiet small rooms)

Besides the sensitivity and location to put the clapper plus, overall it can do its' job just need little patience.

For the price:
It's little pricy for something that does not always work when clapping, but all matter is the uniqueness that it brings. Good for impressing the girls, but make sure you know how to clap right.

Customer Review: I 'love' the Clapper Plus!! [do not overload watts]
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a lamp person and am not crazy about [actually don't like] overhead lighting so this item I find is perfect for turning on my lamps! My friends and husband make fun saying this is an old peoples item [I think because of the past commercial with the clapping old lady]. I do not clap, I use the remote [they think this is cool but will never admit it]. I have 3 units and the remotes work on all of them. I wish they came with 2 remotes but 1 is sufficient and you can order extras by themselves. Actually, I cannot say enough nice things about this product. It's not for OLD people. It's for people who want to turn things on with a remote instead of fumbling for the on/off switch. [especially the items where the on/off switch is on the cord... what a pain. Not anymore :o) ]

Get yourself a unit and you will like it too. If not... send it to me... and I'll use it.. I'm serious. :o)

---------

VERY VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you DO NOT overload the unit past the maximum watts. 250watts max for one side, 400 watts max for both sides. It says this ON the unit and in the booklet but they need to STRESS this in bold letters all over the place. Overloading it in anyway will make the fuse blow and it cannot be changed/fixed, you'll know this by the burnt fuse smell and the fear of potential fire (plus it no longer works) :o( . And this in turn will make your unit material for the garbage can. Thus having to learn a lesson and buy a new one and tell everyone you know about the importance of this. Hey, extra remote now. :o/

Customer Review: makin' boom-boom
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently moved into a new downtown apartment, and was proud of myself for ditching all of my accumulated bachelor furniture, and had purchased a nice bedroom set and decorations. I also purchased a clapper on a whim for my bedside lamp. The hilarity of the clapper stems from my roommate or friends, or anyone who knows I have it being able to turn my lights on and off from the other side of the door.

One fateful night I met a girl of loose moral standards and brought her home under the auspices of playing guitar hero / foosball / hide the sausage. We went into the bedroom and started to make whoopie but my headboard was placed a critical one eighth inch off the wall. Enter my trusty Clapper.

The gentle oscillations of my bed matched the headboards resonant frequency which quickly overcame the one eighth inch boundary, and shortly thereafter a faint sound, not unlike the sound of clapping, came out of my bed and a rather comical disco-rodeo scene ensued as my new friend tried to run me out of tuna town.

Customer Review: Worked great... for about 9 months
Summary: 2 Stars

I asked my husband to get this for me as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. I loved it - I usually stay up later than he but the bed lamp is on his side so I'd have to either get up and walk all the way around the bed or nudge him to go ahead and turn off the light. You can guess which way I usually chose - much to his dismay.

So the Clapper was great - while it worked. We had a few times that it seemed to freeze and we had to unplug it to re-set, but it was very infrequently. However, about 9 months into it, it seemed to have frozen. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and then it zapped and some smoke started coming out of it. I yelled for my husband and then ran to the back door and threw it into the yard (yes, I panicked).

Part of me wants to buy another, thinking maybe this one was just a dud. On the other hand, I'm afraid to buy another. I don't want to burn our house down.

Customer Review: great clapper!
Summary: 4 Stars

I just got the clapper today..was lil annoyed at first when it wouldnt start the moment i connected it...then i read the instructions clearly and followed them...no problems at all...this was for my bed room...the remote too is a great addition..just in case the claps dont work..but i realise as long as i clap right..not hard necessarily it works...I minused 1 star because it says it can be operated from 25 feet..which is not true..It works only inside my bedroom..not when i clap from my living room which is adjacent to it...must have something to do with the things around my clapper impeding the signals...but that was not specified in the brochure...either ways...its fun..its convenient..read about a few people complainin of fire...i have mine on a surge protector..will update on that if it ever happens..

quality ...nuthing great...but convenience...excellent!
