Customer Reviews of The Clapper Sound Activated On/Off Switch, 1 Each

Customer Review: Clapper caused devastating house fire and death
Summary: 1 Stars

When I first got the clapper, it was great. I would clap furiously all day long, until my hands became quite painful, just for the entertainment. My wife and kids loved it too. We all clapped, clapped, our ways to domestic bliss.

....but that all changed rather quickly. It all started with strange "clucking" sounds that would seem to come from the clapper at random times. The clucking soon changed to a more sinister, well, honestly, a sort of "cackling." My son complained it was giving him nightmares. My husband, hardly the superstitous type, even mentioned in passing that he thought it might even be possessed by some sort of demonic powers and that he felt a presence like Satan himself may be plugged into that cursed receptacle.

Finally: The Clapper Apocalypse. The clapper caught fire, my family burned alive (their agonizing screams forever haunt me, and I was left severely disfigured, paraplegic, deaf, blind, and chronically constipated.

New clapper jingle: "Clap on, clap off, burn alive and die"

Just Kidding.

Customer Review: VERY BAD PRODUCT FOR ALOT OF HYPE!!
Summary: 1 Stars

Okay lets face it, we always see the Clapper advertised around Holiday season...why?? IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR A PRODUCT THAT WORKS BUT INSTEAD A GAG GIFT FOR THE BOSS YOU SECRETELY HATE!! lol

Terrible product, it was configured to "Home" function, with low sensitivity and as soon as I turned the TV on my lamp (which the clapper is connected for) turns on!! -or even if I yell from the room to another person it turns on!!

1. Annoying
2. Electricity!! - come on for all the times the lamp would have been off instead of turning it on over and over costs electricity!
3. DISsatisfaction...terrible quality, product to profit its maker because people will buy it as a gift mainly.

When I plugged in my stereo instead of the lamp, I found the same thing happen - the slightest sound and it turns on! (yes the dial was on Home function NOT away and set to LOW sensitivity)

Its a bad product because it continuosly sucks electricity -do not get this product, it isnt worth the higher bill each month

Customer Review: Clapper is an Electrical Hazard
Summary: 1 Stars

I loved the idea of the Clapper. I live alone so the clapping sound wouldn't bother me and I looked forward to the convenience factor. My first Clapper lasted about 4 months and then mysteriously stopped working, but the dead unit did smell suspiciously funny - like an electrical short.
Did I learn my lesson? Oh, no! I went ahead and purchased another Clapper some months later. The night before last, the lamp I connected this one to started blinking. I checked the lightbulb and it was OK. It was only went I got down close to the Clapper plugged into the outlet that I heard the dreaded sizzling sound and saw a flash of electricity. Once again the Clapper crapped out, this time in a different lamp, different outlet. Will I never learn?
Thank goodness nothing happened due to the highjinks of this faulty device. Can you say "housefire"? Again, how dumb am I? Is the unit UL-approved and, if so, have any other complaints been lodged about it? How does one find this out?
I like my gadgets, but "buyer beware" on this one.

Customer Review: About what I expected
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this for my mom to use after her surgery made her immobile so she could turn the light on and off from bed. I read the previous reviews and figured I didn't have a dog or anything else that was loud so maybe I would be ok.

Well that first night, we were watching a movie and the first time we laughed, the light turned off. Then we laughed cuz of that, and the light turned on. Needless to say, the rest of the night we were amused by the clapper. I also kept a mini-fridge in the room so while we were sleeping that night, every time the fridge cooler or whatever kept turning on, the light turned on....I did try experiment with the sensitivity switch, but basically, any sound that had two tones was enough to activate the clapper. It did serve its purpose and entertained us.

I live in an old house and we blew a fuse...it burned the clapper out so now it sits on my desk. During my mom's last visit, she tried to clap on the light and I told her it didn't work anymore. She was bummed.

Customer Review: More of A Pain than It's Worth
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought The Clapper Sound Activated On/Off Switch, 1 Each to go on a light that either has to be plugged in/unplugged or the light has to be loosened/tightened in order to use it. It's a small lamp that sits across the room from where we usually sit (less than 6 feet), so it's very inconvenient to have to get up every time we want to turn the light on or off, but there are no tables or shelves to put it on... The Clapper seemed like the perfect solution.

It would turn on/off if our dog barked, but we could clap 4, 5, 6... times and it wouldn't turn on/off. Sometimes it would work the first time, but we almost always clapped twice, just out of habit, so the light would turn on the first time and off the second time. Loud laughs would sometimes trigger it, too.

Eventually I returned it as it was just too much of a hassle.
