Customer Reviews of The Clapper Sound Activated On/Off Switch, 1 EachCustomer Review: not worth the annoyance Summary: 2 Stars
I wouldn't buy this thing again. We have it running a lamp next to the front door. There's no wall switch for that outlet, and the switch on the lamp is a bit cumbersome, so I thought the clapper would be a convenient way to turn on the light when returning home at night. It is, but the unit is way too sensitive. Maybe it's the acoustics of the room (hardwood floors), but just about anything will set it off as another reviewer mentioned. Ours does have the adjustable sensitivity and even with it set fully to "home" mode (least sensitive) it gets triggered when not desired. It will eventually get scrapped when we get a different lamp with a more accessible switch, although I'm just about fed up enough to do away with it even before then.
Customer Review: the crapper Summary: 1 Stars
i once had a girlfriend who actually had 'the clap' and lets just say even she was more reliable than this thing. its so sporadic that it cant be relied on for a regular switch. i swear id do the same clap every time and only once in a while would it work. you have to stare at the lights on the unit to see when to clap. i wish i could get it to work. i thought itd be a catchy thing to have for the l-l-ladies...ya knowwhadimean? and forget about activating 2 simultaneous lamps. that was a joke. if you set it to turn on every time it hears a noise, any noise, it works a little better...but then it turns off after 3 minutes! i just ordered a wireless switch- hoping that works better. again, i would definitely clap away from this product.
Customer Review: Pretty Decent Summary: 4 Stars
Ordered the Clapper and was pretty impressed. Everything works fine, and the fact that it doesn't work with fluorescent lights wasn't a problem, as most of my lights are incandescent. Only thing is that you really have to get the "beat" of the light, and you can't clap that fast or slow (so it doesn't really work "movie-style"), although that can be a good thing otherwise you'd have blinking lights during a movie applause. Sometimes when you walk or make a loud sound while clapping, the light won't always turn on/off, because it detects the other sounds around it.
But overall it's better than getting up late in the night to hand-switch off/on the lights--Therefore the 4 stars.
Customer Review: Not long term Summary: 3 Stars
I received the clapper as a gift a year ago. At first I was extremely satisfied with its performance. Soon, however, the device began to become less sensitive and I had to clap so hard it hurt my hands. I discovered that pounding on a table in the same pattern activates the clapper, but even then I had to hit the table directly over the clapper very hard. This was all totally bearable until one day I began to smell burning rubber and discovered it was coming from the clapper! I had had two devices plugged into it as it is made for but I guess it overpowered the clapper because after the burning rubber smell it stopped working all together. The clapper is a fun and convenient device, but it won't last you long.
Customer Review: Great for Christmas tree lights!!! Summary: 4 Stars
We got a Clapper as a white elephant Christmas gift 6 years ago. I brought it home and plugged our Christmas tree lights into it and we've been using it annually ever since. It is great for that purpose! I've seen remote controlled light switches for Christmas trees lately, but when you have kids around it is a guarantee that you will lose the remote. It is also great fun to see our preschoolers trying to clap on/clap off our tree...as well as all the (non-Clapper) trees at our friends' houses. The only negative is it can be tricky to adjust the sensitivity so the clapper works for your claps but not, say, the sound of the dog jumping off the sofa onto the wood floor.
