Customer Reviews of The Clapper Sound Activated On/Off Switch, 1 Each

Customer Review: Almost Perfect for Audio Equipment
Summary: 4 Stars

I connected The Clapper to my bedroom "boombox," with wonderful results. I can clap my favorite music on or off without getting out of bed. It's very handy and, dare I say, luxurious. There's just one small problem. Apparently, The Clapper can't distinguish between real and recorded hand claps. When I play "Hey Mickey" by Toni Basil or "We Got the Beat" by The Go-Go's, the boombox shuts off. My prized Buddy Greco Live at The Sands CD, with frequent applause, is especially problematic. I've yet to make it through Buddy's "weather report" section ("Sunshine Day," "Windy," and "Rainy Day").

Customer Review: IT WORKS!
Summary: 5 Stars

It works great for me. I am 94 years young and have a balance problem. Recently, it became difficult walking to the bed, after turning off the light at the door, and in the dark. With the Clapper, I leave the light on, get into bed, clap my hands twice, the light goes off and I go to sleep.

Installation is simple, just plug the Clapper into the wall outlet and plug the lamp cord into the Clapper. It took a few trys to get the pace of the claps just right, but once I got it right it works every time. I found that a very slight pause after the first clap was just right.

Customer Review: Don't Waste Your Time or Money on the Clapper
Summary: 1 Stars

I read the previous reviews and hoped the negative one was not true. But, the Clapper would not work at all for me either. No amount of close up or far off clapping worked. But when I leaned in close to examine it, it turned on without clapping. The sensitivity control did not make one bit of difference. I am not a novice in electronics, and I am telling the truth here. I am not affiliated with any competitive company or product, but just think this product should be taken off the market. I urge you to find some other product that will accomplish your task.

Customer Review: Erratic and Dangerous
Summary: 1 Stars

After less than three weeks of use on two 60-watt lamps (The Clapper is supposed to be rated to 400 watts) in which the device only operated after multiple attempts and only if it were in the open (not obstructed even partially by anything) it burned out one of the lamps and shorted out internally with great arcing, popping and acrid smoke. Had I not been there to remove the power immediately I am sure a house fire would have been the result.

I would advise everyone against purchasing this device even as a gag gift. Someone might actually use it.

Customer Review: It works for my 9-year old son
Summary: 4 Stars

It does what it is supposed to do - and, my son even sometimes plays with it like it's a video game. The clapper allows him to easily turn his light off from the top bunk of his bunk bed. It doesn't get 5 stars because it takes a try or two to activate the two lights connected (one controlled by two claps and the other by three). There's no TV in his bedroom but people talking never turn a light on or off (there are sensitivity settings if you would like this to happen)... UNLESS there is something parked in front (I suppose an echo can confuse it).
