Customer Review: Great Buy for the Money

I purchased this humidor because I needed a separate travel humidor for my Cu.....Dominican cigars. I know this is typically not what you think of when someone says "travel" humidor but I wanted a nice one for long trips. It is by no means a higher end humidor but my my purposes it is great. I wouldn't recommend it for an afficianado's everyday humidor but for a beginner or up an coming connoisseur it is good. The humidor itself is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and looks wonderful anywhere. I read complaints about it losing its humidity and I can assure you that if properly seasoned it will not lose its humidity. As I always do, I took 12 days to season this humidor and as a result it is wonderfully seasoned and ready to start aging my cigars. The hygrometer is another issue all together and the only reason it didn't get a 5 star review. The analog hygrometer that came with it was near useless. Before the salt test it read 35% relative humidity. After the salt test...it read 35% relative humidity. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent a new one free of charge. When I opened the new hygrometer the arrow was pointing straight down (an area off the grid). The salt test failed to move the arrow at all. I had received a second defective hygrometer. After contacting the manufacturer again they informed me that their last shipment was over 50% defective. They said they would send me a third. {NOTE: Even if they had worked and been off by a typical range of 5%-10% these hygrometers have no calibration screw. You have to mentally correct any error. Not a feature I like.} Anyway, here was my solution. They offered me a 35% discount on a digital hygrometer. They are far more accurate and can be calibrated. So I purchased it. However, it will not fit in the pre-drilled humidor hole and keep a seal. I knew this would be the case before purchasing it. To plug this hole I took one of the defective hygrometers and ripped the expansion coil out of the back. I then shook the unit until the arrow pointed to approximately 72% (the humidity I like my humidors at). I then put the broken hygrometer in the pre-drilled hole. Even though it does not work it looks nice, maintains the humidor's seal, and still reflects the humidity I know I keep my humidors at. I then put the digital humidor inside the unit. I always use a digital hygrometer anyway so the analog, for me, is mostly for decoration. With this set-up I am very confident that my cigars will be very well maintained.
