Customer Reviews of The Journey to Wild Divine Biofeedback Software & Hardware for PC & Mac: The PassageCustomer Review: Fun way to learn to relax Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this game since March 2004, and I really enjoy it. The gameplay feels a lot like "Myst", with beautiful rendered scenery and a variety of styles of music chosen to match the events. However, instead of intellectual puzzles, the events are based on the biofeedback techniques being taught in the game. They come in three basic types: relaxation events, "energy raising" events (good for helping to get motivated on a drizzly morning), and "heart breath" events, which help train your heart to beat with increased variability based on your breathing. These last seem to be helping with my mild arrhythmia. There are also non-biofeedback events which teach visualization and "subtle body" techniques, which are interesting. If you're looking for a first person shooter like "Unreal Tournament," this game isn't for you. But if you liked Myst, or are interested in yoga or philosophy, or if you're really stressed and looking for something to help manage the overwhelming feeling everyday life can cause, this is a good pick. For about three times the cost of a typical computer game you can get something that actually helps improve your outlook and health even when you're not playing the game (at least, that has been my experience). And the planned sequels will be less expensive, because you won't have to buy the hardware again. There's also an extremely supportive online community at the company website at http://www.wilddivine.com.
Customer Review: Loving it! Summary: 5 Stars
I found this game at Whole Foods, of all places. I'd heard about these sorts of games but didn't know they were available mainstream. Found it just in time for Christmas!
I'd read the other reviews so I did have some concerns. I'm running Windows Vista, but the install process went as smooth as could be, and quick.
I've had absolutely no problem with signal transmission through the rings. Minor repositioning here and there, and I like to check the "system" option on the menu to make sure it's optimal.
I've only been playing 3 days now, but I'm noticing how much easier some of the exercises are getting; however some are easier or harder depending on the day, which makes sense.
This game is great for me. I know the benefits of meditation, but I tend not to do them without someone leading me through; my impatience and busyness take over. This gives me motivation through the game aspect to keep me going on my own, as well as the visual feedback that helps me know I really am affecting myself. I am loving the Chakra visualizations!
At this point the only thing more I could wish for is a few more options on the start menu, such as a volume adjustment. Navigating around through the start area can be a little confusing at first, the map isn't ideal, but there are links to home-made ones in the forum as well.
Enough gush, I'm going back to my game!
Customer Review: Infinite Possibilities to Make Money Summary: 1 Stars
If there is one thing which most interferes with my sense of peace, relaxation and serenity, it is the wealthy practitioners of New Age self-help mumbo jumbo who take advantage of the vulnerable sheep who seek relief from their anxieties and feelings of emptiness. Just create a soundtrack with the mandatory cheezy strings and flute-whistles, mount that on a snazzy motif of floating orbs, otherworldly opulence, and flowing robes, throw in some pseudo high-tech wires and clamps which do nothing more than measure one's rate of heart-beat (which is in no way "biofeedback"), place that in an elegant upscale box, charge an upscale price, and you have created a package which will cater to all those non discriminating suckers as represented by the glowing and almost universally positive reviews found here. Another similar product which is even more costly and which I ordered and returned along with this one, says it all in small print on the box: "has no medical efficacy, and is to be considered as entertainment." But if this kind of "entertainment" reinforces your oblivious sense of accomplishment, just send in your big bucks to the New Age dudes in their big houses who sit around and conjure up even more "infinite possibilities" of developing their "full potential" to make even more money. I recommend a good book on meditation, and actually sitting down and doing it.
Customer Review: Best meditation assistant I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product because I had a dr. accuse me of being anxious and depressed. While I would agree I suffer from white coat anxiety, I didn't agree with the dr. otherwise. I figured, though, that if the dr was right, a biofeedback game would be the perfect help. I had wanted to try Journey, anyway, and this gave me an excellent excuse to buy it. I bought it for myself for Christmas. I have probably spent hundreds of dollars on meditation tapes, meditation books, classes - you name it, I've tried it. I do an excellent job of falling asleep using any of them. Journey to the Wild has been wonderful for me. I am finally experiencing the powerful benefits of meditation without falling asleep. I am given different experiences to entice me to keep trying, keep going - and stay awake. I am sustaining a feeling of happiness and life satisfaction. The only negative would be coming from my husband. He thinks I'm hogging the computer now. I've started timing myself so that I don't stay on too long. Who would have ever thought that a person who has found no computer games she liked previously would have to time herself so that she doesn't become so wrapped up she does nothing else? If you are looking for an adventure game, you won't like this. If you are looking for a meditation assistant, I think you'll love it.
Customer Review: incredible experience Summary: 5 Stars
The Journey's price tag might raise an eyebrow. Why would you want to spend down so much money on a game? Because The Journey will most likely be one of the most innovative games you've ever played which will have remarkable and perceptible repercussions on your everyday life. The exercises and techniques that you will learn in The Journey will help you to reduce stress and anxiety in your life, and teach you to use your meditative mind to regulate your body's physiology for improved creativity and performance. Even after completing The Journey, I often find myself revisiting certain parts of the game to relax and calm down at the end of the day, and it's really effective. Think of this game as an investment. The next installment of the Wild Divine series won't require you to buy the hardware again, and there are already several enterprising fans of the game have already begun producing free applications to perform basic biofeedback graphing using the biofeedback equipment. I highly recommend this game to anyone - you owe it to yourself to give it a try, especially with the 30-day unconditional money back guarantee offered by the developers. If you do try it, you will find The Journey to be a fantastic voyage of self-discovery that offers an incredible sense of immersion and a learning experience you will never forget.
