This is Lisa's husband, Jeff. Lisa bought this Theracane for me recently, and I just had to drop in another rave review.
Like some the other reviewers here, I bought this because of the high customer ratings. I sit at a computer for 8 or more hours a day, and I think the arms-in-front position causes some of my back muscles to get stretched out, and thus sore.
I've tried several products to get relief: heat pads (not as good as a hot shower), massaging wands (have to lay on it to get enough pressure), rolling shiatsu massager (fixed positions of the rollers mean I can't get the pressure where I want), massage therapists (perfect therapy, but expensive!), and cajoling my wife into rubbing the sore spots. My wife heard my interest in this cane because it's something I can do for myself any time and massage exactly the spots I want with the pressure I want.
I admit to playing with the Theracane for a while before reading the accompanying manual. The manual is a definite bonus because it comes up with ways to massage everything from your neck on down! Getting a "cane" for my birthday made me feel a little older, but as those sore spots tend to stick around a little longer, now, this will definitely help speed up the recovery!

"Aren't you supposed to leave that locked on your steering wheel" they ask as I walk across the parking lot to work. Sure, it's strange looking, but who cares?
I had a blue TheraCane for several years and ended up giving it to someone who needed it more than I did to take care of a pinched nerve in their hip - and it worked for them within 20 minutes - and so then I just had to go out and buy a new one. I like that this one is green - variety is good.
The quality is identical to my old one - very solid, sturdy, and well finished. People will usually approach me a few weeks after seeing it and timidly ask what it is and I'll hand it to them and explain that you can massage your back (neck, legs, arms, hands, feet, etc.) with it and they dig in a bit on their back and usually say something like "wow" or "ooooh" as they find a knot to push on that they never knew they had.
I got it cheaper here at Amazon than I could get it at the stores locally, though when factoring shipping into the cost, it isn't a huge difference in price. You'll just have to check out your local stores and compare yourself against Amazon's price plus shipping.
Customer Review: Great for getting at those trouble spots in your back

In the past several months I decided that I was going to do all that I could to reduce the amount of back and shoulder pain that I have experienced more and more over the past few years. I have a mild case of scoliosis that was undiagnosed when I was an infant. As a result I suffer from a great deal of upper back pain. Physical Therapy has helped a lot and my physical therapist gave me a number of wonderful stretches and other advice. I have also been seeing a doctor who gives me monthly manipulations. She told me about the TheraCane, which I use on the precise spot where the scoliosis causes most of the pain. Along with some other body tools (in particular a Foam Roller), this has been one of the most useful things in eliminating or minimizing back pain.
The great thing about the TheraCane is its versatility. It is wonderfully designed and can be used to get at all kinds of pain. I have exclusively upper back pain, but I suspect that it would be equally helpful in dealing with lower back pain.
If you suffer from back pain of any kind, this could well be one of the best presents that you ever give to yourself.
Customer Review: Great for recurring knots and tension

I would definitely recommend this product. I have a lot of recurring knots and tension, especially in my shoulder blades. This product has helped me get to them without having to nag my boyfriend for a massage everyday, or get a professional massage (something I certainly could never afford). I think the list price on here is a little ridiculous, though. Really, $47 for a mass produced hunk of plastic?
Here's some things I would keep in mind before buying this product:
- It can actually be kind of exhausting to use. Granted, I'm not in the best shape, but I feel like I am really getting a workout in my arms, which is good, but sometimes I can't keep up the massaging for as long as I would like.
- The hard plastic can really hurt those tender knots. It is definitely unpleasant to use, but afterwards you feel a lot better. However, after the first day I used this, my back felt sore and bruised for the next three days.
Nevertheless, I would recommend the Thera Cane. Before I found this, I never would have imagined there was a product out there that would allow me to give myself a back massage. :)
Customer Review: Brilliant Concept

I can hardly believe that such a simple apparatus could be so effective in relieving pain and relaxing muscles.
When I was sixteen, I was a passenger in a car that had a head-on collision. We didn't have seat belts in cars in those days. I broke my neck when the car rolled over several times. Since my spinal cord was not severed I survived without paralysis. I also compressed some vertebrae in my back from an accident in a gym at age twenty four. In recent years I have suffered chronic pain from both of these accidents. Sometimes the pain has been so intense that I had to seek help. I am now seventy one.
Aleve, Occasional use of a soft cast on my neck,and exercise have been helpful; but these do not come near solving the pain and resultant muscle tension problems. And I cannot afford costly recurring therapies.
Enter the Thera Cane! I am just beginning to use it and it has made an immediate difference. I'm amazed. I feel confident that with continued use I will finally gain full control of the pain and tension. My sincere thanks to the inventor.
