I bought this item to be able to apply heat to various muscles that were stiff and causing pain. It is great to use in some circumstances. However the inconvenience of keeping it in place using the band provided and it's shape after it is filled with water convinced me to buy a moist heat electric pad. I ordered one from Amazon, but later cancelled due to the one month shipping delay and bought the same at Walmart for a slightly lower price. The pad cannot be made as hot as the water bottle (you can put very hot water in there), but it is very easy to use and serves more functions ( back, calves, thighs) than the water bottle.
However, I was impressed by the bottle's ability to handle heat and I still use it from time to time when I need higher temperatures.
