Customer Reviews of Third Generation Dr Mom Slimline Stainless LED Pocket Otoscope now includes True View Full Spectrum LED and Pocket ClipCustomer Review: Dr. Mom Otoscope Summary: 5 Stars
I just received the Dr. Mom Otoscope. I am a nurse and I view ears daily in a clinic... this is a really nice product! With the proper size specula, you get a perfect (and bright) view of the tympanic membrane! And it really is as good a view as you get with the expensive professional wall models!
I had purchased a cheap plastic otoscope for home from a local drugstore (around $13 a few years ago) which did not work well, it was very dull even with fresh batteries and I hated the contact switch that turned it on and off. The Dr. Mom otoscope had rave reviews and looked like it was a decent quality item. So, I figured for just a few dollars more, this one HAD to be better.
What a nice surprise to receive a product that is BETTER than I expected! I can now get a bright and clear view of any irregularities in my childrens' ears as soon as they begin to complain! I also like the on/off button at the bottom of the otoscope, that the bulb is guaranteed and that the AAA batteries are easily purchased anywhere.
Thanks for a great medical product that is affordable!

Customer Review: Excellent functionality and nice size for travel. Summary: 5 Stars
I am very impressed with this little otoscope. This is the second one I have purchased this time to give to my sister in law for use with her child who is very prone to ear infections. I myself am a pediatrician and found out about this otoscope when a patient brought one in with her child to have me help her with it's use. I have to admit when I first saw the otoscope I was not expecting too much but was totally blown away when I looked in her child's ear and realized I could see as clear if not clearer with it than I could with the very expensive professional model otoscope I was using in my office. The light is very bright with excellent magnification and optics provided by it's lens which gives you a very clear view of the tympanic membrane.
Granted I would not recommend an otoscope to every parent that comes in my office but for those I feel who will take the time and have the patience to learn to use one they can be a very helpful in monitoring the state of a child's ear health. I do not think you will find a better value in an otoscope when you consider functionality and price. Heather S. M.D.
Customer Review: Light not bright enough; better for older children Summary: 2 Stars
I loved the price of this otoscope, so I got it after reading reviews of this one and several others. When I received this otoscope, I tried to check my 9-month old's ear, but there was too much wax to see the ear drum. I wasn't sure if my daughter just had an over-waxy ear canal, so I decided to ask my pediatrician.
I took the ototscope in to my child's appointment with her pediatric doctor and asked him to have a go with it without telling him anything about it. He used it (he made sure use the smallest tip) and said basically two things: 1) the light isn't nearly bright enough and 2)it'd be better used for older children whose ear canals are a little bigger because a small amount of wax can impede vision of the scope. He also said that my daughter's ears had a normal amount of wax (whew!). :-)
I guess I'll be hanging on to this for a few years until my daughter is older. However, I wish I had paid a little bit more money for one that had a better quality light so I could use it on my young daughter.
Customer Review: Excellent value Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this otoscope along with a larger professional model otoscope for office use. I purchased this otoscope to use as an inexpensive pocket model I could keep in my coat pocket during hospital rounds. I have to say I am extremely impressed with how well it works and how clearly I can visualize the tympanic membrane on both adult and pediatric patients. The otoscope is very light weight and comes with a pocket clip to keep it securely in your pocket when not in use. I have used it over 4 1/2 months on a fairly regular basis and still have not had to replace the batteries. The LEAD light is extremely bright and also works well for doing an oral-pharyngeal examination. Overall I rate the otoscope a very good value for the money spent. It has saved me lots of time not spent running all over the nurses station looking for a flashlight and otoscope when doing an initial physical exam on a newly hospitalized patient. Definitely well worth the small price I paid for the instrument.
Customer Review: Exceptional Otoscope Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love my Dr Mom Otoscope. I have owned it over 3 years now and it has worked flawlessly. I am purchasing 3 more to give away as gifts. The light is extremely bright and I can see my childrens eardrums very clearly. My older daughter had a 2 year period where she was plagued with ear infections. I put the otoscope to very good use and it saved me several trips to her pediatrician. I could see when an ear infection was just beginning to take hold and I would call her pediatrician and let her know my daughters eardrum was getting red and she would call in some medication which would nip things in the bud.
Luckily my older daughter has seemed to out grow the ear infections but now her younger brother is going through similar problems.
The otoscope is lightweight and sturdy and comes with three specula and batteries. It came in a nice re-usable clamshell case that also contained instructions with pictures.
I have been very happy with my purchase.
