Tide has been a favorite in my family for as long as I can remember. We love the clean, fresh scent it leaves on our clothes and it always does an amazing job at removing dirt and stains. So when I had the opportunity to review the Tide 2x Ultra Liquid Original Scent detergent, I was almost sure we would be pleased with the product.
First of all I have to say that the original scent is a real bonus. I know there are many people that prefer unscented detergents, but my family and I love the light, fresh smell this detergent leaves on our clothes. It even leaves the inside of our washer smelling clean and fresh between washes. So for the scent I give this 5 stars.
For cleaning your clothes, you just can't beat Tide. I know there are a lot of great detergents out there, and I think everyone has their own preference. But with 3 active children, we find that Tide always cleans the best for our family. My only complaint is that the whitening agent they use tends to cause a somewhat faded look on some of our darkest colors. Whites come out snow white, and colors come out looking very bright. But dark blacks and navy blues tend to look a little lighter after just a few washes. After doing some research online, I am finding that many, if not most, detergents tend to cause this effect these days. It has something to do with the optical whiteners they use. So I have to mark down a star for the faded look on my black and navy blue work slacks. But overall Tide cleans clothes extremely well. I give it 4 stars in this category.
As far as packaging, I have never purchased laundry detergent online before, so I'm not sure how it is usually packaged. I like the bottle that this detergent comes in. However, the box these bottle arrived in left a little to be desired. Sure, it was simple to open and easy to remove the bottles, but there was no protection inside. One of the bottles had been pushed in at the top, which caused it to leak about 1/4 of a bottle inside the box. It smelled great but left a blue, sticky mess on both bottles and all over the inside of the box. I feel that some stuffing or formed Styrofoam would have prevented this internal damage. So for packaging I can only give only give 4 stars (most of which is for the bottle design). Sorry Amazon; I admire your Frustration-Free Packaging concept, but I think you kept it a little too simple in this case.
So overall I give this Tide 2x Ultra Liquid Original Scent detergent 4 stars. It smells great, it cleans great, and I highly recommend it.
Oh, and just one more note: I wish these detergent companies would show a little more realistic load count on their packages. This product claims 32 loads per bottle. That is based on a normal load in a conventional sized washer. We have a super capacity washer and almost always run a full sized load. Therefore this 32 load bottle provided us just over 21 loads of laundry cleaning. I sure wish Tide (and other manufacturers) would make it more clear as to exactly how much washing capacity you can expect out of each container. It's just a small complaint but one that has frustrated me for as long as I have been cleaning laundry. The bigger the machines get, the fewer loads you will get out of a bottle (or box if using powder) of detergent.
