With three active children in our family, we run many loads of laundry through our front load HE washer each week. We just love Tide HE laundry detergent and when we had the opportunity to test the new Tide Stain Release Duo Pac my wife and I were sure we would this product too. Well after using several of these nice smelling tabs, over the past couple of weeks, we are just not sure Tide hit the mark with this latest offering.
First of all, our children are all 10 and older, so we don't notice as many stains on their clothes as we used to. Still, our boy sometimes comes home with some grass stains on the knees of his pants, or one of our daughters will have a small juice or mustard stain on the front of their shirt. Well all of these stains, as well as some blood and even a bit of marinara sauce were involved in our testing of the Tide Stain Release Duo Pac In-Wash Booster. Our results were a bit mixed and somewhat disappointing.
The first thing we noticed, when adding a "Duo Pac" to our front load washer is that it seemed to create a lot more suds than we notice when just using the Tide HE detergent. I was almost expecting an `Over Suds' warning on the LED display panel of the washer, but it completed the wash without any problems. The first load included a pair of our son's pants, which had a fairly light but fresh grass stain on one knee. After the wash we noticed the stain was much lighter but still noticeable. A repeat wash, including another Tide wash booster duo pac, seems to have completely removed the stain. The next test included some shirts; one with a small mustard stain and another with some spattered spots of marinara sauce. When the wash finished we found the marinara sauce was gone, as far as we could tell, but the mustard stain was still noticeable. Even after a second wash the mustard stain remained (lighter but still there). Future loads included clothes with juice stains and even a blood stain. The blood came out, but the juice stain just got lighter. The shirt with the juice stain seems to be clean now, after a second and third wash with the stain release wash booster tabs.
I have read numerous reviews for this product, most of which boast excellent results. I certainly expected to be very pleased as well, since it is a Tide product, but I have to say I am not sold on the claims included in the product description; "helps remove tough stains THE 1st TIME." Then again, maybe the key word in that quote is "helps." I guess I would have to agree that it helps. I just wish it would do a better job at removing the stains entirely.
My wife and I still love Tide laundry detergents, and everyone in the family keeps a Tide Stain Stick close by; in the office and at school. We will continue using the remainder of the stain release tabs that are in the package, but I don't think we will be buying them in the future. They do remove SOME stains, they certainly lighten other stains, and they leave behind a very pleasant smell. Still, we will continue to use our trusty didi seven (Didi 7) universal stain remover and OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover. We experience much better and more reliable results from those products over this offering from Tide. Sorry Tide, but I guess nobody can be the best at everything. =o)
