Don't buy this item unless you own stock in a Battery Manufacturer because it eats batteries and expensive ones at that. The light output, even with fresh batteries is sub-standard. Particularly in light of the fact that you are using 4 C Batteries. In the two weeks subsequent to receipt of this item, I've put 16 new Akaline (Copper Top) batteries in the device after using it only 2 hrs every third day. This company (SPI) also sells another model that uses 4 AA bateries and has a LED light that is bright and soothing on the eyes. I also purchased this model and It's been over a month since purchase with only one set of batteries. Go figure.

After much research, I finally settled on this lapdesk and am very happy with it. It's perfect for any use I can think of to put it to. The textured (but hard) surface holds my laptop firmly in place with some room for the mouse, but is not so textured as to interfere with its usefulness as a nice writing surface. The pencil holder is extremely handy. The full sized pad on the bottom is comfortable and rests completely on each leg while I'm sitting in a half lotus position. The lamp takes 4 C batteries, but is just bright enough and fully adjustable so as not to keep Hubby awake at night. For all around comfort and usefulness, this product is perfect.Customer Review: high quality lap desk, but light needs improvement

This lap desk is of very high quality (minus the light feature). Strong desk area, soft lap area. Large work space. I am very pleased with my purchase. However, the light is basically useless. It takes 4 C-cell batteries and they are used up very quickly. The light has a plastic cover over it with a reflector background. I suppose the design is supposed to reflect the most light possible. However, the design creates "patterns" of light on your work surface. It is not even and quite annoying. I did not buy this product for the light feature, so I'm pleased. If you are looking to buy a lap desk with a light, try another product.Customer Review: Very comfy! Fits even 17" laptop!

I was worried purchasing this item when it only had one review, but now that the item has arrived and I've had a chance to try it out I'm extrememly happy I did.
I had read reviews about similar items being poorly manufactured and falling apart, glue residue slopped on the product, and being too small to fit larger screened laptops. This product however seems to be much more durable, cleanly designed and large enough to fit even my 17" laptop and mouse (and I *can* sit cross legged and have the lapdesk still fit comfortably)! I'm glad I spent just a few dollars more for this paticular brand.

i am enjoying my desk however as i had seen a desk by the same manufacturer at a barnes and noble i thought i was purchasing the desk with an incline adjustment on the back. i did get the first desk as promised, but it came in with a broken bulb. it took me a few inquires to be able to locate a bulb. after i replaced the bulb the desk lamp itself did not work. i contacted amazon, and was helped with a pleasant experience on how to return it and get a new one sent very quickly. as this was the first time i had ordered anything from amazon, i was pleasently pleased with the process.
