Customer Reviews of Uplift Technologies DL930 Day-Light 10,000 Lux SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) Lamp

Customer Review: This lamp is what every person living in Seattle needs
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this lamp 2 weeks ago and I have been using it every day since. It is sturdy, super bright (think Mexico on a sunny day with no sunglasses), easy to use and does the trick of reducing the blahs from lack of sun here in Seattle. I bought the lamp mainly because I have a morning job and am not a morning person (aka cannot get out of bed in the morning)

It has a hole in the back so that it can be hung on the wall. I have the lamp hanging on the wall opposite of my bed so that when my alarm clock goes off at 6am (no light outside), I turn the lamp on and even if I try, there is no way I could fall back asleep-it's that bright. Getting up every morning at 6am is becoming easier and easier every day with the help of this lamp.

The directions state to use the lamp first thing in the morning with the lamp at eye level within 12inches for 20 minutes. The directions also state that you can use the lamp at a further distance but one would have to use it for a longer period of time-which I do and I get results.

The lamp is big but it still can fit on my desk (it has a pop out metal stand on the back of the lamp) next to my computer when I work, or on my bathroom counter (which is tiny-single sink with 3 inches of counter on each side) while I get ready for work. It's extremely light.

Improved mood-yes, decreased cravings for carbs.-yes, my body thinks it's sunny all the time in Seattle-yes. It was worth every penny.

Customer Review: The Light Box Anti-Depressant
Summary: 5 Stars

My psychiatrist prescribed a white light box to help combat my periodic depression, always at its worst from Sept.-April. I did a lot of research (Consumer Reports etc.) and learned that what I wanted was a "White Light" box, not blue light or full spectrum which are useless and/or dangerous. There's a lot of quackery out there. White light does not contain UVA or UVB rays, and has been used in hospitals to combat depression for almost 20 years. It helps in about 50% of cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder. I found two brands that met my criteria, and found this one on Amazon for about $25 less than list price. I felt the effects (of 30 minutes daily exposure in the morning, as directed) in less than a week. I have been completely free of depression, and full of energy ever since, three months and counting. Over Christmas, I was away from home, in a city where it was heavily overcast the whole time. On the fifth day there, I awoke depressed. Returned that day and it took me 4 days to feel good again.
My one quibble is that the box is rather awkwardly designed; it took a while to find a convenient place to use it correctly. As it is too large to travel with, I am going to look for a more portable one, and will start with Up-Lift Technologies as I am so completely happy with the wonderful effects of their product.

Customer Review: The Test of Time
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my 3rd winter using this light and I highly recommend it. I wish I'd started using one much earlier to combat the winter ennui from being a transplanted Floridian, which was exacerbating my temporary depression. My office doesn't have a window, not that the sun has shone that much here in the Boston area this winter, and I really miss the sun!

My physician suggested I use a SAD lamp and specifically suggested this one. I am sure that my response is not a placebo effect, now that I've used it 3 years. The first time you set it up it can be awkward to make everything fit evenly without it tipping over. (A second pair of hands would help.) It came through shipping well and survived my last summer's move. Upon first use, I did not experience any bad odor, nor did anyone else in my household.

It is not the most beautiful thing in the world, but I use it in my bedroom while reading email and the newspaper online, so it doesn't matter.

Today I discovered that on the Uplift Technologies page for this lamp, they have the directions for use. Nice in case you can't find yours and can't remember from one year to the next (I mentioned I moved, didn't I?) I would definitely purchase this again, or upgrade to the Day-Light Sky, since it is a little more attractive.

Customer Review: Great product, great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this item at the suggestion of my psychiatrist for treatment of SAD. I have only used it for a few days, so it is too early to tell if it will have any long-term therapeutic benefits, but so far I am enjoying the experience. I have noticed a slight odor, but oddly I do not smell it until after I have turned the light off, and even then it is not objectionable. Perhaps other users who have complained about the odor are more sensitive than I, or perhaps the box has been set up in a way that does not allow for proper ventilation? I don't know about cool light vs. warm light nor do I care. I did a lot of research on light therapy prior to purchasing this light, and there was no evidence to indicate the necessity of using full spectrum light, so why pay extra for it? What I do like about this light is that the panel is raised and can be angled downward, as this feels very natural to me and also eliminates glare. The light is steady with no flickering and the unit is silent. I wake up each morning at 6:30, turn it on, and watch a movie on a portable dvd player while sitting under the light. I don't even notice the light, to be honest, and before I know it 30 minutes have gone by. I think it is a great product.

Customer Review: Good Light.. exactly what I expected
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered this light on recommendation from my doctor to help regulate my sleep/ awake cycle. Package arrived as expected and the light was exactly as described. I ordered this light because it provided the 10000 lux that my doctor had prescribed and it also filtered any UV rays. When I first started using the light the bright light seemed to make me nauseous. It would quickly go away after I was done using it. My doctor however advised to use the light a little further away than the recommendation that came with the light and that seemed to solve the problem. I've used this light every morning for almost a month and I have noticed a slight increase in energy (not a lot) but some. And I've also noticed that I fall asleep quicker when I go to bed. I do notice that I feel a lot more positive during the day, instead of grumpy and down. My doctor said it could take up to a month to help with the sleep cycle regulation and I have noticed some improvement. Not completely fixed but worth the investment I believe. Light works great, only thing is it is quite large and it would be nice if I had a different area to keep it other than my kitchen table, but overall no complaints.
