Customer Reviews of Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream, 16 OuncesCustomer Review: Relief from dry/itchy skin (from Retin-A use) -- finally! Summary: 5 Stars
I happened to find this product at walgreens (a one pound tub with pump for $13.99). My friends were using Hydrolatum for their newborn baby's skin and I noticed my hands felt extremely soft (and stayed soft for a long time!) after I used my hands to put lotion on the baby too. I was thinking about buying some Hydrolatum and while doing some internet searches to determine if it was safe to use on my face (i.e., wouldn't cause break-outs) I also found some websites talking about Vanicream and how great it was because there were no parabens, etc. So, when I saw Vanicream at the drug store, I figured "$13.99? - sure, i'll give it a try!" I had been using tazorac and retin-A creams for a while and my skin was really red and raw despite moisturizing like crazy with other gentle creams/lotions. No matter how much lotion/cream I put on, my face would look like extremely dry parchment paper with an oily layer on top. I was just utterly confused on how my skin could look so dry and paper-y / crinkly despite the globs and globs of cream I would put on. People I knew kept on commenting on how red, chapped, and dry/flaky my skin looked. After I started using Vanicream on my face (I put it on immediately after I wash my face and rub it in well), many many people starting commenting on how my skin started looking much much much better. Not only was all the flakiness and redness gone, but my face also no longer burned or stung when I washed it! Even using something as gentle as cetaphil used to cause my skin to burn/sting due to my use of tazorac/retin-A. However, since I started using Vanicream on my face, not only has my skin become extremely soft and moisturized, it's also stayed beautiful and clear. Vanicream did not cause any break-outs to occur at all! I'm amazed! I've been using it for many many weeks now (almost a month) and I've had no problems whatsoever. I have extremely sensitive skin (prone to broken blood vessels) which even turns bright red when I use a damp tissue to wipe my face (esp. around the eyes). Vanicream has never caused my skin to burn or sting or break-out. I'm really impressed with it and I will be using it from now on!
Customer Review: One of those great hidden secrets! Summary: 5 Stars
What a marvelous product this is, and it's so vastly under-rated (and not so easy to find, either). I discovered it last year when my husband was hospitalized with an illness that created a nasty side effect: a painful red and bumpy skin rash on his arms and legs. His dermatalogist (who is truly a godsend to us!) suggested that we use this product religiously to relieve even the toughest skin reactions and allergies.
At first you might think it's rather costly, but let me reassure you, the one pound container will last you quite a while. I would definitely recommend getting the pump to use with it, also. Otherwise you'll have a mess on your hands when you reach the bottom of the tub.
This product is great for the most sensitive skin, and also can be purchased in bar-form for use in the shower. For really severe skin rashes, try soaking gauze in warm water (as warm is can be tolerated), lay it on the area that's bothering you, and cover the entire area with warm towels. Leave these on for at least thirty minutes to get the most effect for the treatment (you'll probably have to repeatedly warm the towels so the gauze stays warm). You'll be rewarded with soft and greatly revived skin. If you repeat this treatment twice a day for a while, you'll see dramatic improvements in the condition of your skin. The redness will be relieved, and the dry texture will become softer and more supple.
While my results may not be achieved by everyone, I still believe that, dollar for dollar, this is a "must have" product to keep on hand.
Customer Review: Great for kids with eczema!! Summary: 5 Stars
We have been battling with our 5 year old daughter's eczema for years now. Name the product, odds are we've tried it! We tried Vanicream because her allergist recommended it, and we have been using it since. We like Aquaphor Healing Ointment, 14 oz (396 g) (Pack of 2)and Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Original Moisturizing Creme, 16-Ounce Jars (Pack of 2), but they can be messy to apply at daycare/school, and feel a bit more tacky on the skin. Our daughter really likes how smoothly Vanicream glides on, and how quickly her skin absorbs it. We call it the "invisible goop" because we can apply it just before school and her friends can't tell that there is anything on her face or arms. We like the pump (no dipping hands and fingers into the jar, so no worries about getting bacteria in it, which is a plus with eczema and any skin that is more infection-prone) and it is much easier to clean up than Eucerin or Aquaphor. We continue to use all three, with Vanicream getting the most use during the day, and more Aquaphor to seal in moisture during the winter months.
Customer Review: Works well, but read the ingredients Summary: 4 Stars
First let me say that I am a label-reader: I read ingredients on everything from soup to nuts to skin creams. I never buy a product because of the package design or the celebrity that is marketing it. I go straight to the ingredients and make my decision from there (for all the Aquaphor-users out there, read the label - it's Vaseline).
While it's very true that Vanicream is a nice, non-irritating cream for sensitive skin, the list of ingredients is still made up of long-syllabled chemicals that are hard to pronounce. This doesn't sit well with me, but my daughter's dermatologist recommended it so that's why I purchased this product. Vanicream looks, feels, and smells (there is no smell) just like Cetaphil cream. In fact, we alternate between the two depending which is on sale at the time. We tend to stay away from creams that are perfumey or greasy, so when we don't want to splurge financially on natural homeopathic creams with natural ingredients that are familiar and easy to pronounce, we always come back to Vanicream.
Customer Review: Fantastic product & very economical Summary: 5 Stars
Until about 15 years ago when a dermatologist advised me to use Vanicream, my face was so dry in the winter, that no matter how well I moisturized at night, I'd wake up with itchy red patches all over my face. After using Vanicream for about 3 weeks, my face was completely clear and the itching was gone...forever! Per my dermatologist, I apply to my face prior to applying my makeup base, it makes my makeup go on smoothly and evenly. After washing my face before going to bed, I use Vanicream again, on my face and neck, using extra around my eyes & even rub some into my eyelashes, to keep them conditioned. I am 60 years old and am constantly told I look at least 10 years younger (I have almost no wrinkles). I thank Vanicream for this, as all the other women in my family have wrinkled badly and pretty early. Also, compare the price of this with other moisturizers, Vanicream is a real bargain. Without a doubt, this is the best "cosmetic" product I have ever used!
