I have done a very extensive search for a mineral sunblock in the past few years, after learning about the dangers of chemical sunscreens. Just about every one I tried looked completely dreadful once applied, and some smelled weird, too. All are hard to get off. All will have, immediately or a bit later, at least a faint metallic smell; you can't get away from that.
The Vanicream sunblock, however, goes on essentially clear, even before rubbing in. It's not thick or greasy, though it is slightly tacky to the touch. It goes on smelling like nothing, though a bit later, the faint metallic smell creeps in; no big deal.
According to the Environmental Working Group, Vanicream does not use nano-scale ingredients. I don't know how they do it, because this product looks WAY better on my face than anything else I tried.
The 30 SPF is my daily sunblock now, and I also have a tube of the SPF 60, for longer days in the sun. The 60 is just like the 30, except that it feels a tad firmer on the face.
In the course of this project, I've also learned how to clean off a mineral sunblock. The packages sometimes say to rinse with water to remove. This does nothing. Soap and water works decently, but this is what I do: slather my face with lotion, wipe it off with cotton balls, and repeat. (That is, do what you would do to remove makeup.) It's also good to exfoliate regularly, because these products will tend to highlight any skin irregularities or blocked pores.

VanicreamTM Sunscreen SPF 60 is a broad spectrum sunscreen that protect your skin throughout the UVA spectrum and provide more protection than your natural sunburn protection (UVB). While all sunscreens protect your skin from the sun's burning UVB rays, the SPF 60 sunscreen contain zinc oxide, an ingredient that offers additional protection from the UVA rays which may contribute to skin damage and premature aging of the skin.
