Customer Review: Strengths and weaknesses

I was looking for a safe, effective sunsreen for my trip to Southeast Asia this summer. Here are what I think are the strengths and weaknesses for this product
Strengths:
1, Many non-chemical sunscreens actually fail to live up to their SPF, but I do think it successfully protected my skin in the worst UV environment. (But I also used hats and such)
2, It is relatively safe for my skin. It didn't make my skin break out.
Weaknesses:
1, THE greasiest sunscreen I ever experienced. It's ok when you're out hiking or at the beach, but when I went out to see friends, they often commented on how much I was "sweating." When I really did sweat, it made the cream turn white and visible (dotty on my face).
2, As it's noted on Skin Deep Cosmetic safety database, it's not perfectly safe. While I didn't have any breakouts, my face (not my body) got itchy wearing this. But I was able to get around it by putting on a moisturizer before applying this.
3, It's pretty tough to wash off. Though it's not waterproof, after I washed my body I could still smell it and see it on my skin (showing up white especially in wrinkly area).
Despite the problems, I think I might use it again next summer (at least on my body) because I haven't been able to find a better safe, high SPF sunscreen. Other ones don't make my face shiny but make my face look all white.

I am the type of person who NEVER writes a review but for this product I must! I have the most sensitive skin and am allergic to most anything! (shaving cream, soaps, basically anything scented natural or otherwise). This product is unscented which is very important to me. I must mention to those who do like scented products I suggest you don't apply them to your face since products that contain a fragrance as even natural fragrances will age your skin. This product sinks into my skin within a few minutes and does not affect my makeup, if anything it makes it look better. This product has also allowed me to go down a shade (from nc10 to nc5 yes I am very pale) as I wear this everyday which some may not like however I do. If you don't want to get lighter I suggest getting one with a lower spf or wearing this only in the summertime or when outside for long periods. If you have sensitive skin like me this is a must have!Customer Review: Still burned

My 5 year old son is allergic to something in sunscreen (haven't figured out what yet). The dermatologist recommended this product for us to try. My son still broke out from it, but what was most discouraging was that it didn't seem to protect him from burning. We were in Mexico and even though I reapplied the vanicream during the day, he still was burning. I finally had to switch to another lotion for the morning when the sun was strongest. I would use the vanicream for later in the afternoon when the sun was weaker. The nice thing about this product was that unlike most oxide formulas, my child did not have a white "glow" (vanicream was clear) and the vanicream was easier to wash off in the bath. The other oxide products were like slathering your child in desitin (it doesn't come off!) Just beware that you will have to reapply this product quite often and even then it may not protect you from extreme sun.Customer Review: Eureka! The only thing that works for me!

I have been allergic to sunscreen (and therefore haven't worn any) since I was twelve years old. Can't even use makeup, chapstick, etc with it in it. Broke out in little water blisters, and no one could figure it out....so I've just gone without. Nearly 18 years later, a dermatologist gave me some samples of the Vanicream Sunscreen for Sensitive skin. Eureka! I have never written a review on Amazon, but I have to say this product is amazing for me and hopefully for anyone with a similar issue. I recently spent 4 hours on boat, applied the sunscreen only once (spf 60), and didn't burn, nor did I have a reaction! This was the true test! This product was alittle disappointing to me because it was greasy. I have a real problem with make up or sungard breaking me out. I also really hate greasy stuff!
I gave my tubes away because it was greasy. I don't know if I would have broken out with it's use, but I didn't want to try it. My daughter uses it now on her 3 year old as a body sunguard and it seems to work ok. They went to an outdoor party in San Diego, her daughter did sunburn. But she was there in the intense sun and in sprinklers and well maybe she should have reapplied the cream. Actually there is a new product with "dry touch" that I get at walmart that doesn't break me out, is not oily, and cheaper. But if you don't mind the oily feel I think this product would be ok for people with sensitive skin.
