I think thaat this lightbulb is excellant. I suffer from SAD during the winter months, when there is no sun. Since I live in Washington state, there is "no sun" most of the year. When I get SAD, I turn to my lightbox for help, but my husband took it for a reading lamp, so these lightbulbs are a real "lifesaver". Verilux is a great full-spectrum bulb, wonderful for reading. This item is a package of two bulbs. They are packed like a book, which does not need extra padding for protection. Consequently, one bulb was broken during shipment. On the "easy return" label, there was no address.
After years of purchases and several thousand dollars, this is the only complaint I have ever had about anything I've ordered from Amazon! Not bad!
However, buy this bulb locally!

For a full-time student and part-time teacher, good light that doesn't contribute to eyestrain is critical. Add the needs of warding off the pall of long, dark, gloomy winters in a rented vanilla box in a student town with no car. I used to feel tired and sleepy all the time in winters, and always craved "more light." Answer:le lamp. I'm really glad I purchased these bulbs. No eyestrain, no sleepiness/tiredness; in fact, the only 'negative' effect is that they actually keep me awake and alert for far too long:) I have to step away from them about 2 hours before bedtime in order to feel naturally sleepy. The bulb gives light which is not as yellowish as standard soft white bulbs, improving the readability of written text. The bulbs themselves are very compact, slightly shorter than a standand incandescent bulb. Turn on time is less than half a second.
The two bulbs come in a container made of thin cardboard that offers little protection. Both the original shipment and the replacement shipment each had a broken bulb. The bulbs do contain small amounts of mercury which is toxic. They probably should be ordered separately so as to lessen the chance of them being damaged by other items in the shipment and prevent mercury contamination of the other items.
