Customer Reviews of Verilux HappyLite Deluxe Sunshine SimulatorCustomer Review: I like this ! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this just over a week, but I began to feel the effects from the first day. I'm not dragging, have more get up and go, I get out and do more. Other side benefits : I find I wake up easier - not so groggy in the mornings. I also feel less hungry.
If you read the instructions, it says the closer you sit to the light, the less time you have to spend sitting in front of it. Recommendation is 9" -24" from your face, which is pretty close/awkward. I try to sit for at least 20 mins weekday mornings with it very close to me. On the weekends I sit in front of it for hours as I do other things, but I keep it within 24" of my face. I'm hoping that I am 'filling up" -- dont really know if that is possible.
It's kind of a drag being stuck in front of the light everyday -- but the results are worth it. It's such a relief to get rid of lethargy and to wake up alert in the mornings.
The light is very bright -- it lights up the whole room. no way you can use this without everybody knowing. The lamp is also larger than I anticipated.
Update: I have been using this for almost 2 weeks - although I am still enjoying feeling more energetic and waking up easier, I am noticing that I am "on edge" and bordering on crabbiness --which is supposedly a sign of over doing it - so I will be trying this every other day.
Customer Review: Does the job Summary: 2 Stars
I have experience with three different light therapy lamps. For 10 years I have used the Northern Light Technologies SADelite. I love the lamp, but it finally bit the dust, so I decided to go for something a little less bulky.
The Verilux HappyLite is not a very nice light to be around. While the physical design of it is great, the quality of the light it gives off is cold and leaves practically leaves you feeling more depressed than before you used it. It gives off a very white/blue, cold light.
The SADelite is great. I love the quality of light it gives off. But it is also very bulky and unattractive, and you occasionally need to tighten the screws so the lamp stays up. But, it also has the advantage of being able to use the light as a lamp without being directly exposed to it. Sometimes it's nice to work by it for a couple hours without getting all cracked out from being exposed to the direct light.
If I can't get my SADelite repaired, I am going to get the Northern Lights TRAVelite. I had the pleasure of using my mom's, and it gives off as much light as the HappyLite, but gives off a less depressing, warm light, and is smaller than the HappyLite.
While the HappyLite gets a lot of positive reviews because it may be effective at alleviating symptoms of SAD, there are better lights out there.
Customer Review: READ MY REVIEW!!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have lived with severe depression since I have been 12 yrs. old. I am now 45. It gets worse in the winter, and I live in Wisconsin where 5 months out of the year are generally dark and cold. My husband bought me this light last year, and I didn't use it every day. This fall, I asked my psychiatrist exactly how to use it so I could give it a fair chance and really see if it makes a difference. He said start a month before you think you're really going to need the relief, use it minimally 1/2 hour every day, and keep the light 12-16 inches away from your eyes. He said if you're going to read or do something else, you must make eye contact with the light for one full second every thirty seconds. I started using it and decided to just prop it up on my bent knees as I sat up in bed against the headboard. I found it meditative, and I just relaxed my eyes, looked into the light box and thought about the beach. For the first time in my life that I can remember, when it's dark outside, it's light and sunny in my head. I don't feel like I live in a cave, I have energy and I laugh. IT WORKS. IT REALLY WORKS!!!!!
Customer Review: Well named and effective Summary: 5 Stars
I live in Maine, and the winters here are long and dark! This November I could feel myself going down, so I did some research and purchased a HappyLight. Within a few days of using it, I definitely started to feel lighter and less bothered by the darkness/cabin fever.
It's a very bright light and I use it for general lighting in my studio at night (I also use task lamps, but this light brightens up the whole room). My routine is great - I get up early, make a cup of tea and read something challenging sitting next to the HappyLight for about 30-45 minutes. My mood is greatly improved this year, and I'm sure it's due to the HappyLight.
The stand on the back is convenient since it folds flush for storage. There is also a hole on the back so the light could be hung on a wall. The light has a very smooth design and is well made. Verilux is a Vermont company - support New England business!
If you are considering light therapy for SAD, don't wait any longer - get a HappyLight and feel better!
Customer Review: Happy Lite Saves! Summary: 5 Stars
Verilux HappyLite Deluxe Sunshine Simulator
Around each November, I become a horrendous crab. It starts around daylight-savings time. It's as if a black curtain drops around me and I remain this way until the bright sun of April rolls around and I see longer days and warm winds. Last year I year I promised myself that I would drop the 200 bucks to get a SAD light. I forgot about it until my husband, who helpfully pointed out that I was in my usual Nov. crabmeister mode, reminded me about buying a light. ON THE FIRST DAY-I found myself not wanting to leave my desk, where I have placed my new best friend Mr. Verilux, and enjoying the work that was in front of me! I feel renewed and not terribly so crabby-it's working! I recommend this lamp to every one who finds themselves angry and hating Nov-Mar in every cold and lousy state they live in! Mine MN.
